I almost can't imagine a post more devoid of content--as long as we're being honest and all. How about, just for a change of pace, addressing the content of a post rather than spewing uninformed assumptions about the poster? If there's something I said that doesn't hold water, by all means, educate me. I'm happy to learn new things and hear other opinions...are you?

By the way, how long have you been involved in travel ball where the teams received large cash tournament prizes? About as long as I have, I'll wager. I'm just sharing my opinion about how a new development may impact the sport. If you're not interested or don't want to comment substantively, I invite you to skim right down to the next post.

I was under the impression that the entry fee differential was a little more substantial (like $100 or so). What was the entry fee to the RocketTech tourney--for some reason I have $550 in mind. Anyway, my point was that teams would shy away because of the bigger entry fee, and that the additional recruiting advantage would only contribute to that phenomenon,. If the entry fee is, as you say, only $30 or so more, I think that answers my first concern, although I would be interested to see how the second plays out.

I had a friend's daughter play in the RT tourney and it was $450.00. We all need to keep in mind that as "Spaz the Prophet" stated these companies are a business not a charitable organization.

I could really care less, I hope they figure it out cause even when we play ASA what do we get out of their tournaments?? "Bragging Rights and a Sweatshirt". C'mon, Big Mamma knows something good when she sees it. I wonder how much money ASA makes, I mean their the ambassadors of this whole thing........They could charge us $1,000.00 an entry fee and most of us would still go...

Is there going to be two second place trophy's at this tournament.

What would a team do with the money?
Buy new bat bags/ helmets new cleats should I keep going.
If your dd is stuck on a team that has no chance of winning a prize then don't enter the tournament.
I do not understand why somebody would get upset over a great fundraiser.

They should of called the tournament playing for visa gift cards.

I suspect that Visa gift cards woudl be considered money.

The could however cut a deal with a sporting goods store, or some sporting goods companies for bats, bags, cleats, uni's or other common items that team would need over the course of the year.

Part of the reason ASA is calling out the cash, is likely that it could elminate atheletes status as amateurs (NCAA and Olympics). If the team is given cash they will have to track it very close and prove that the cash was used for expenses that do not target any athelete.

Awards Prior to Enrollment:

If a student-athlete has never enrolled full-time in any college, he/she may receive awards for athletics participation. The award(s) needs to conform to the rules of the amateur sports organization that governs the competition and cannot include cash. The awards presented to the student-athlete may include gift certificates and items that are not personalized, provided the awards are permitted by the rules of the amateur sports organization.

Wonder how ASA reconciles their rule with allowing college players to play in ASA Gold Nationals. The college players have been playing all season long while the school pays for their education. The players who receive athletic scholarship money are, in effect, professional softball players.

Why would they care if a team plays in a tournament so that the TEAM might received $1,500 to assist in running their TEAM?

I could maybe understand if the tournament paid $150 to each member of the winning team, but the team playing for funds to support the team doesn't seem to be a problem to me....but I'm not ASA.

PSSG would like to thank everyone for their insight in regards to our Cash Money Tournament.
It has prompted us to get in contact with the appropriate people to verify our prize package that we have offered is legitimate.

We are exicted to announce that we have been given permission by ASA to proceed with this tournament and this prize package. We have spoken to State Commissioner Phil Gutierrez to verify that we are able to present a cash prize to the winning teams. He has stated the following:
1. All money that will be awarded to 1st place and 2nd place will be awarded in a form of a Team Check from PSSG.
2. Money will not be dispersed to any coach or player. This is strictly a team donation.
3. No team, coach or player will be in jeapordy of violating any ASA rules by participating in this tournament.

PSSG will be given written documentation from ASA to their approval on this topic. Furthermore Mike Schuck (JO Comissioner) will be informing all coaches that this tournament has been approved by ASA.
