Too be upright and breathing. Evident by the number of coaches

To be a good coach: Integrity, evident by the lack of good coaches

As my son is learning right now, you need a good team mom.

Being a Dad.......apparently for some reason women, who created this sport and who this sport was created for, would rather relegate there role to the sex who has never played it.

Sorry just me griping bout the lack of female coaches.

Ok coach michele, I'll grant you that the male coaches far exceed the women, but to say it was created by women for women is factually incorrect. Below is from wikepedia....

The earliest known softball game was played in Chicago, Illinois on Thanksgiving Day, 1887. It took place at the Farragut Boat Club to hear the outcome of the Yale and Harvard football game. When the score was announced and bets were settled, a Yale alumnus threw a boxing glove at a Harvard supporter. The other person grabbed a stick and swung at it. George Hancock called out "Play ball!" and the game began, with the boxing glove tightened into a ball, a broom handle serving as a bat. This first contest ended with a score of 41-40. The ball, being soft, was fielded barehanded.

George Hancock is credited as the game's inventor for his development of ball and an undersized bat in the next week. The Farragut Club soon set rules for the game, which spread quickly to outsiders. Envisioned as a way for baseball players to maintain their skills during the winter, the sport was called "Indoor Baseball". Under the name of "Indoor-Outdoor", the game moved outside in the next year, and the first rules were published in 1889.

I agree about the lack of female coaches, but having played the game is not an indication that someone can coach or manage the game ... But from those who have formerly played the best coaches are Catchers , then Outfielders, then the Corners, Middle Infielders and lastly Pitchers ... Since many woman who stay around the game were formerly pitchers, they are the least qualified to coach in my opinion.

There are great female coaches, but not enough ... I have observed many bad ones ... My own DD's having a long string of terrible women coaches in their HS and college days and one great one at the collegate level ... The one great one makes none of the mistakes the others made ... She doesn't support clicks or try to be their friend ... She doesn't support back stabbing among players ... She doesn't have favorites ( or at least advertise it ) ... She doesn't blame players for loses or her bad managerial decisions ... She doesn't compete with her players for attention or make the game about herself ... All but the last comment seem to be more common with female coaches in my opinion.

We have a had a mix with women coaches, though much more favorable than what you have run into G-man, some real luck on my girls part. And once where an unqualified male coach was appointed by someone doing favors, I did my best to make him uncomfortable , until he went back to doing what he does best. The girls last high school coach was a very intense young lady - and had paid her dues in her playing days, putting in the same number of years that my girls had actually. We have seen really good men coaches, really awful men coaches, really good women coaches and a really great coach on the field - but extremely racist woman. Like in most stuff, its a mix and you got to figure out how to deal with it, one way or another.
