Originally, I was planning to make some comments here, on the forum, but soon realized that I had quite a bit to say. As a result, I have started a blog, in case anyone is interested: http://youthsportsgoodforkids.blogspot.com. The upshot of the first post is that scholarships are not required to get a college education, especially in California. Below the first post are reprints from my more general blog that also comment on youth sports and softball. FYI.

Besides being "Captain Obvious" I have a real problem with some of the points being made in this "blog"

The most glaring is in the sixth paragraph where he stipulates that college athletes will earn less than non-athletes. This is blatantly false. College athletes generally earn 15-20% more than there non-athletic counterparts. They also graduate at a better rate than non-athletes. Performing under pressure, time management, and teamwork are all skills highly coveted in today's business world.

Is there too much focus on scholarships-perhaps. Lot's of false info and dreams- yeah probably. The writer makes a mockery of his arguments with declaration that college can happen without a scholarship and then just being wrong with the facts.

This blog is a travesty. It's a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham.

Citations please.

I find these qualities to be more prevalent in those who are military veterans than amateur athletes. Don't need a scholarship for that :)

Professor J.Kirk has been placed on administrative leave, but have no fear he has tenure at the U. (a online college)
It is regretful, he had so many questions and opinions to offer the softball world after 1 year of TB.
His subject line alone is brilliant,,, so let's work with that.. :ugeek:
It has not been that long ago that at 14u you just played the game for competition. Now thanks to over aggressive college recruiters, it has become something else. Players get envious at school, parents see little Susie got verbaled, and wonder about their better little Debbie. The game does start to take on a whole new purpose at an earlier age,,,the fun age.
I see further, because I stand on the shoulders of giants

Who would a thought. Speaking for some of the others, probably not all, thanks for the enlightenment.

I got a scholarship without ball...It was wrapped in Woodland BDUs

Although I find your blog intellectually interesting I think you need to dive into your own self-conscious and figure out the basic reasons for your research. How well is your daughter doing in softball? Is she a top player on this team? Do you think she will rise to the top ranks of the sport? If the answer is no, or probably not, its ok, just read your blog. 8-)
