Need advice on hitting

What's on your mind?

Without more information I would bet her timing is off and not allowing the ball to get deep. My team (over half of them) developed this problem coming out of 10u. Our solution:
1. We started slowing our BP pitching WAY down. (slow pitch softball slow)
2. Eliminated hitting off machines (except bunting)
3. hit alot of tennis balls off the bounce
This worked amazingly well.

Also consider live pitching. Using your good and your developing pitchers. In fact one way to help with timing is one time through with your best pitcher followed by your least capable pitcher. Live pitching will also help with any HBP. Always in a competitive situation, balls and strikes are counted.

with out seeing her it is difficult but based on age and result I will take a stab.

Most young players both male & female have a bad habit of not completing their swing. They get to contact & go right to finish which in most cases is too low as well. The crucial step they are lacking is Extension. Extension is where most of the power in the swing is generated. Does her current coach tell her she is rolling over or breaking her wrist? If so that means she is not extending through the swing. I can give you some drills if you PM.

The pic below is a good look at Extension.

Good luck.

If completing the swing is an issue- learned this drill at a college clinic-

they did soft toss using volleyballs, soccerballs, and basketballs- extra weight of balls forced full swings. College coach said that even at that level(college) hitters forget to finish their swings. My DD liked it so much she made it part of her own workout and her Captain's practice when she was in HS

The problem with the big type balls is they tend to have a bounce back effect that can cause a whole new problem for a 12u player. I would rather see a TCB Ball or we would take old softballs and drive 20 to 30 finishing nails into it & wrap the ball with duct tape several times & let them hit soft toss with an old bat. Also Muhl Teck has a good heavy bag that works good too.

I like and have found it beneficial to use soccer, volley, or basket balls to promote driving through the ball but not with full air pressure. Let some of the air out of them so there isn't the bounce back effect - the weight will still require them to drive through the ball.

I bought a bunch of small, little kid sized, rubber soccer balls at a department store for a couple bucks or so each. Inexpensive and works well. You can even make it into a game and have a "long driving" contest off tees to incentivize them to drive through the ball. Also helps learning to drive through the outside pitch rather than swinging around it and trying to pull it.

I agree with ARTOMATIC. Get a good batting instructor that keeps it simple and enjoy you kid while she is young.
