I remember people stopping by watching our practices and saying things like 'wow - working toward playing in college?' and my thought was 'are you kidding me'. At that age, I just thought how great it would be to win a rec league 10u championship or for her to make all stars or something , and maybe, someday, my kids could play ball in high school.
I remember one season, i think munchkin (DD2) was 8 , the others on that team were 9 and 10 and we had won 5 or 6 games straight at the local rec league and thought we were pretty hot stuff. A travel team from the city challenged us to a game - I never knew girls grew that big as those city kids were. First base was a kid we called 'Refrigerator', she wasnt fat, she was just big. We lost 1-0 which killed the girls but I was thinking 'thank you Lord, that nobody got hurt out there'. It taught us that we needed to start looking around and that there was something beyond rec league.
