I had a manufacturing rep tell me when a bat gets two strikes, the company is likely to change the paint job on the bat and give it a new model number.

I would hope that rep was pulling your leg. Any new model would still have to be submitted to ASA for testing to get the required certification which means it would have to pass all tests after being subject to accelerated break-in techniques.
It may pass, it may not, but is it really worth the trouble and cost?
