Although that is terrible.
Out here in Cali we have some very 'hot headed' coaches.
This past weekend my daughters team was playing in the Victory Tournament and her team had a late warm up so I decided to check-out some of the other games going on. I strolled over to the OC Batbusters Game against the OC Wildcats.
I watched about 15 minutes of that game. I have to tell you I think that game should go down in history for the most injuries in a game.
Apparently, the Wildcats catcher hurt her knee and left the game. Their other catcher got hit in the face by a pitch that bounced off the ground. Their first baseman got hit in the face by a runner running to first. Their secondbaseman came up to hit and got beaned in the arm. And on top of that their #4 batter pulled a muscle in her leg and couldn't run.
AND on top of that the umpire had a rediculous strike-zone. On a right-handed batter he would call the pitch 5 inches off the outside corner at the batters ankle. NO JOKE.
Anyway, as I was saying, 'hot headed' coaches, the BB's coach was in the dugout and the umpire called out one of his players sliding into home, who was clearly out. With time running out, and the BB's behind, surprisingly the coach came out and yelled at the umpire for calling her out. The umpire got so frustrated he ended the game with 5 minutes left, the coach then followed the umpire off the field yelling at him, 'YOUR AN IDIOT' and 'YOUR WEAKSAUCE'...

Aunt Rosie's tournament in Buffalo NY this past weekend. Congrats to Long Island Bandits on going 8-0 and winning the tournament. 2 of our games were against The Valley Extreme Blue, from Ohio, I believe. The 3 coaches were out of control. WAAAAAAAYYYYY too high strung. Everytime his team made an out, he acted like they just won the National Championship. It felt more like a MMA(mixed martial arts) event than a 12u softball tournament. Even the girls had negative chants to our girls. The manager of the team was VERY upset that I was "stealing their signs". He stopped the game, got VERY VERY loud berating me from across the field and crying to the Blues. He then sees me gesture towards him (I was pointing in his direction to show some of our parents what was going on), goes screaming to the Blues again that I "gave him the finger". Blue was watching me, and knew that i didn't do that. I could go on and on, but I think you'll get the point... Very Very classless imo.

Hope you guys stayed in the Buffalo area and had a chance to lodge at Aunt Rosie's B&B....The Rosy Palms....what a place.....bean bags...walnuts.....chestnuts...and every night at the stroke of six....homegrown cumquats and fresh oysters.....what a place.

Or you could have been in Southlake, TX this weekend and got to see a parent fight and a players older brother spit at an umpire. Team refused to give his name (ump was pressing assault charges) and got ejected from the tournament.

Imagine how empty, shallow and pointless the lives of these people must be - to place this kind of stress and emotional energy on the outcome of a youth fastpitch game. Knowing that the only positive thing you will ever accomplish in your miserable excuse of a life will be coaching a youth sports team to a few wins and an occasional championship must be a horrible thing to live with. It helps explain why they freak out when they see their sad little dream begin to unravel before their eyes.

According to the rules, the player is ejected and CANNOT BE SUBBED, and her spot on the roster is an automatic out.

Sometimes it isn't the coaches. I ran into this over the weekend. A player of mine (1st year ever playing softball at 12U) didn't run on a DTS, yes we were yelling to run. I was coaching 3rd base, as we were taking the field my assistant coach hears another player tell the girl's parents, "I am so mad at your daughter". I didn't hear it, but he tells me what happened while our team is in the field, it was the last inning. After the game I pulled that player aside and told her that if I ever hear her doing that again she will be removed from the team, and that she needs to apologize to the other player's parents for saying that.

About 3 minutes later the step mom of the mouthy player gets into my face and says how her daughter was just kidding around and I should check the facts before I open my mouth, as she is walking away she screams "I fuc#ing hate that guy.

As we were switching dugouts moving to another field, I'm not sure how the conversation went (either that mom talked to the other parents, or the player told her what she actually said) in any event the step mom starts screaming at her daughter about lying to her, she looks over to me and yells SORRY (I can't really express how she said it in words other than caps, but it wasn't the type of sorry you would say if you meant it). So glad this is near the end of the tournaments because the player won't be invited back for fall.

I am not part of Long Island bandits, I was just congratulating them on their tourney win. I am a part of The Electric City Bombers, and unfortunatley, this Valley Extreme beat us .

Ah, the picture clears and the plot thickens...........

First year in travel ball, on a team of players who were the same, at our first ever state tournament.

Our players were warned about wearing any metal clips or bands of any kind in their hair. We told the girls to check their hair and take them out, which they did, except one who thought she could hide the metal piece of her elastic hair band. The field ump noticed, ejected the player, and her spot on the roster was an automatic out.

Yep, our bad! I understand how picky it gets in state and national tournaments so no arguement from me on the call.

But the opposing coach was literally taunting us about the ejection. He was yelling things like, "Basic rules! 1, 2, 3! A, B, C!" and actually cheering and hooting. We played them close and likely would have beat them without the ejection. Yet we lost. (which according to Demonboy negates my even bringing this up.) Later a parent from another team came to us and said, "We've played that team and we hate that guy." What does that tell you when a complete stranger approaches you and tells you something like that?

No matter what happened on the field, that coach exhibited juvenile, classless behavior.

Don't worry about what you can't control. The other coach, the umpire, the weather etc etc. Crying about any of them after a loss comes off as just that. Crying. Use that energy to focus on your team and maybe you turn some of those losses to wins.

I would have waited 24 hours (cooling off period...and allows them to call an apologize) after the incident and booted them from the team. Other parents seeing this one get away with it only serves to obliterate your authority...while kicking them off makes the other parents think twice before exhibiting similar behavior.

It's about the parent's actions and the message it sends to the other parents....boot them.
