Best Pitchers Facemask?

Since someone brought up the pitcher's mask, I have to ask..........

How old should a pitcher be when she puts down the mask? My DD is a 97 and wears the rip it. Have been told she needs to shed it to get any colleges to look at her (in the future). Is this truw, and when do you suggest it goes?

If your DD is good enough to play at D1, they wont care. I know girls wearing them in HS with verbals from D1 schools.

My daughter is only 9, but I don't think age should make a damn bit of difference. There was a HS girl at the Best of West tourney in HB hit directly in the face. It fractured nearly every bone in her face, and she was wearing a mask. Word is she would have died without the mask.

My daughter prefers the Schutt over the Rip-It. She says the cushion around the chin does not hold in sweat the same.

If and when you should consider not using the mask depends on the level your DD is playing. Go watch the teams that are playing where you want her to be in the next couple of years.

The problem we have with the mask issue is that there are people who heavily advocate for the use of the mask. They predict a change in attitude towards the mask.

This has been going on for more than 10 years I have been around the sport. Yet, I do not see any real change in the upper level gold or upper level college programs.

Super old post but was also interested in getting the same feedback. I've heard about the ripit ones the most and did more research on them. Not sure if their blackout technology is new since 2010 but it seems like it would do the best job while pitching. Found some good info on their pitchers helmets and masks on this site- http://www.pitchershelmet.com/pitchers-helmets-101/what-are-they/ Any new or improved masks that players seem to like?

My DD doesn't pitch, but generally speaking I think masks shouldn't be worn. Though I understand and don't frown upon them when worn by pitchers. I think working in defense to better prepare oneself and the team in the long run is best.

Now I do see a pattern of mostly lower level pitchers on lower level teams wearing masks. Now don't bash me but you all know I'm right. Masks at the top level is generally frowned upon after 12u. We play in an org that doesn't allow them anywhere on the field. Period!

Now I absolutely think it's pitiful when ANY infielder wears a mask. I say go to outfield or Dads go work with your daughter.
