I've often slammed HS Coach's on here because of our own bad experiences, and would like to take this opportunity to apologize ... sometimes I think that I know everything ... I'm really pig headed and my pride and temper get in the way of my better judgement ... My goal for the future is to be more open minded and accepting of some of the revolutionary strategies, tactics and ideas that I see which I am unfamiliar with and learn from them to better improve my own Coaching skills ... If it makes you feel any better....
Our High School coach decided this year that she caught too much grief from the parents last year, and I guess most of it was from the JV parents.
So, this year....she's not having a JV team. The 9 players left from the varsity team from last year (3 graduated) are automatically on the team (a policy that I despise), and there are 3 spots open. The girls on the JV last year have to try out again, so between those 12 girls, the girls who may have not made it last year, and the incoming freshmen, 3 girls are gonna make it.
My DD is in 8th grade, I'm hoping she either comes to her senses or gets ran out of town before next year. I think my DD will make the team next year even if she keeps this policy, but I hate to see so many girls that want to play HS ball not get the chance.
The school has won a few state championships over the years and competed for several others, but the future isn't looking too good right now.
I'm hoping that the girls that are gonna be on our travel team may be enough to keep them somewhat competitive for the next few years....which I'm sure she will take credit for if it happens.

I am willing to bet that if the baseball coach did that, he would be reprimanded, required to have a JV or be fired.

I agree ... that sounds like that would have to come down from the AD at very least ... it would be different if there were not enough for a JV team ... which happened here last year ... so they let the 3 - 8th graders hang around all year as unofficial members of Varsity ... which I thought sounded like a good idea ... but in this case the gals proved to be very disruptive ... but they did come back out this year and they'll have enough for a JV team ...

No, this is a larger AA school (almost AAA, probably 800+ students), with a history of having good teams in girl sports. They had several more sign up than is needed for a varsity and a jv team.
I was talking to a dad of a 9th grade girl last night, probably one of the top 3 incoming freshmen that I can think of, and he said that she may not even go to try-outs

If I was you and I wanted DD to play HS Ball to warm up for the travel season ... then I think I would phone the AD and say WTF? Maybe there is no one to Coach it ... ( no pun intended, that statement would imply there are people who Coach HS teams ) ...
