Softball essentials / the First aid kit

What's on your mind?

by AUbie » Fri Aug 22, 2008 10:41 am

OK, lame post but we're stocking a new kit and wanted to see if there is anything that I haven't used that's good to have.

Waterproof tape
large non-stick surgical pads (for the big abrasions)
liquid bandaid spray (small abrasions)
ziplock bags (large, regular) for ice packs
plastic wrap (holds bags in place)
ace bandages (sprains and strains)
Neosporin/antiseptic type stuff
contact solution
regular size bandaids

What else? I hate that scramble when someone gets hurt or needs something.

instant ice packs,
advil (depending on the age),
zip ties for emergency glove repair,
extra shoelaces for when a cleat shoelace breaks.
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

Some good pro wrap for that quick tape job

speaking of tape, how can we get a hold of this new tape that is all over the olympics. Supposedly helps in blood flow and has some type of anti-inflammatory built in?
Whats it called and where can you get it?

Hydrogen peroxide (for wound wash and takes the blood out of uniforms)

The tape you are looking for is K Active Kinesiology Tape.

Great suggestions, there are lots of things I hadn't thought of.

Anything else?

scissors
tweasers
safety pins
afterbite
bactene
a few tongue depressors for splinting a finger if needed
mosquito repellent
sunscreen
motrine (for younger kids)
alcohol wipes (in tinfoil packs)
salene wash spray to clean out wounds
small square dressing pads
We use this amazing wrap/tape that looks the colour of a tensor bandage but it sticks to itself, it's stretchy and is great for a bad knee cut where a bandaid is just not going to hold. Just take a small dressing pad, zap it with a bit of poly or neo sporin and then wrap this stuff a bit snuggly around it and leg. Holds amazingling and doesn't hurt like a bandaid when you take off because it doesn't stick to your skin, it only sticks to itself.

We keep anti chafing stuff called "Body Glide" on hand. Pitchers always seem to get chaffed from jerseys on pitching arm. Works on any chaffing though.
