Taking time off - how much time?

What's on your mind?

by anonfp » Fri Aug 07, 2009 1:42 pm

The whole family needs a break. I wanted my dd to take a little time off and play a light schedule for winter ball. Mom and dad are disgusted with the coach. Daddyball and pickup players, need I say more.

So, I've come to the realization that we should all take a break for winterball season and start over again in spring. What's your take? Will one season off hurt or do more good? DD's a pitcher; will a season off set her back too much? Going into first year 14's.

where in the country are you at?
regardless, though, you need to let your kid rest and take some time off if she plays a heavy schedule...
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

Taking off a whole season can keep her from progressing especially as a pitcher. If you do take off for the fall season, I would make sure she still does pitching lessons/practice. Wouldn't hurt to swing the bat a few times a week as well. I've seen some girls come back from a season off and they looked like they've never seen a ball hit to them before, others have picked up right from where they left off. To each his/her own.
My daughter is perfect, she knows everything. Just ask her.

DD took off after Nationals last year, from August to the end of High School ball and had a very hard time finding a team and then once she did she had to battle for playing time and worry about hurt feelings when she got playing time (which wasn't that often). She enjoyed her break, the first one in 5 years, but she is regretting the decision now. Get it out of the way while she is young and hopefully she will see the fruits of her labor pay off during her junior and senior years. Good Luck

Is she doing another HS sport?

If not, I can't imagine that she is going to be very happy. I wouldn't have been at that age.

Yes, I think she will have a lot of work to do to catch up with the other pitchers that have continued their lessons and thrown 3 days a week.

But, if she wants to sit out - fine.
