I am not so sure that is correct. The So Cal ASA Yellow Book, regarding pickup players for So Cal ASA teams, states: "5. A pick-up player who participated in a tournament with a team that is no longer eligible, cannot be a pick-up player for another team that is still eligible in the same tournament, or any other championship play."

The rules are definitely somewhat cryptic and confusing, but I would take this rule to mean that if a girl plays on a team that participates in States, and that team decides not to go on to Westerns, Regionals, Nationals (i.e., is no longer eligible for championshp play), she cannot be picked up (for ASA play) on another team that is still eligible (and going to Regionals, Westerns, or Nationals). The ASA age commissioner is going to have to verify this stuff.

Then again, maybe this means if you become a pickup player for team A that completes in a tourney, you can't jump to team B as a pickup player in another tourney. Who knows. So maybe my previous post was not correct.

My understanding is that once your team decides it is done with championship play. The players are released and CAN be pickup players. The problem arises when coaches can't let go and may just go through the motions of continuing just to lock up the roster. Or, maybe even go to Westerns when that was not part of the original plan. That keeps the players frozen. I think the reason why someone would do that is because they fear those players will not return to his team after. On the other side, there are plenty of families that just want to jump on a bandwagon. So, there is no perfect way to deal with these things. Fortunately for every one, it is not a matter of life and death.
