Coaching Drama Queens

Thanks to everyone who has contributed. I am going to have a sit down with the players involved and talk through the effects of their actions. They are good kids so I'm hoping this works. If not I'll try not making a big deal of it and let my team leaders handle the issue.

For those who brought up the "Drama Kings" I appreciate the prespective. I have indeed seen many of them on and off the field as well.

Good luck but ... you never said what age group it was ( or did I miss that ? )... and that may be relevant ... If they are 18's I think you handle it different than if the are 10's ... are you dealing with a younger Lou Pinella or an older Billy Martin ?

I've got the 12 year old version of Lou Pinella. They don't throw bases or jaw with the umps but are over the top on the injury thing.

The wrong way to fix this: A can of Gold spray paint, a box of tissue and a team meeting when the issue reoccurs for the Day time Emmy award for teams best actress!
The right way: Pull her to the side along with mom and dad and let all know that this can be a good tool or a bad tool the good thing is that they realize that is affecting the team and unless she is truly hurt this type of distraction isnt wanted or needed,remind them that you were showing them professional curtesy by letting them know this and ask them to show the same curtesy ,we all know some will take this well hang there laundry out back and move on and some will choose to air there laundry in the front yard.
