Norm Perez RIP

What's on your mind?

by artomatic » Fri Nov 13, 2015 12:46 pm

The softball world lost a great man today.
Longtime Gordon's Panthers and Firecrackers coach Norm Perez passed away early this morning.
My daughter had the honor of being coached by Normie.
He made a big impact on her development, recruitment, and taught her how to play the game the right way, with just the right amount of swag.
Rest in Peace Norm.

I was deeply sadden to hear about Norm Perez Passing. My daughter had the honor to play for Gordon's Panthers. I hate to admit it, but although she had a 3.0 avg in school. Softball was her life. College, no matter how much we talked about it wasn't her 1st priority.

From the 1st day she stepped on the field with the panthers, Norm somehow saw through her facade and gave her the facts of life in short order. He didn't tell her anything we hadn't already said, He just said it in his typically "Get Real" way. She adored him. By no means was she a superstar, on that team. In Fact, Norm use to tease her she was slowly diving Larry insane with all her questions. Allen, Tommy, Norm and Larry were the real deal. Norm and Tommy would stay after practice with you all day if you asked. Allen would take the shirt off his back to help any of the girls on the team. And we all know Larry Mays is one of a kind.

But for my Daughter Norm was special, he listened to her fears, he reinforced the fact the she was worthy enough to be on the same field with the big dogs. A parent can tell a child something and it may or may not hold the same value. When Norm Perez told my daughter, that she would and she did get a full ride. She believed him. He even bet her once that she would probably end up a coach. Well Norm, you won that bet, she coached for two years at a CSU.

I know my daughter teased you about becoming a Firecracker, I'm just sad that every little girl that ever dreamed of playing softball didn't have a chance to have you in their corner. Anyone who did was lucky, even if if it was just for a little while.

You will be deeply missed,

The Carter Family
