I have volunteered to keep score for our high school team. I ran across 2 plays today that I do not know how to record the outs correctly to update Max Preps.

Runner gets called out for leaving early on an attempt to steal 2nd base? Who gets credit for the out and does anyone get an assist?

Batter bunts down the first base line. Ball is fielded by the catcher and the throw hits the runner who is actually running on the left side of the chalk line. Runner is called out for Runners Interference? Who gets credit and does anyone get an assist?

I have never keep score this precise.

Runner leaving early is CS 3 Unassisted

F2 throw hits BR running inside the runner's lane = 2 Unassisted.

That's incorrect - ASA, NCAA and NFCA all say F2 gets an assist and the fielder that would have received the throw (F3 or F4) gets a putout.

I was reminded of something while looking this up - ASA and NFCA credit fielders with an assist if a putout didn't occur because of a succeeding error. Example: F6 gets an assist for fielding the ball and making a good throw even though F3 made an error and no out was recorded.

The above well intentioned responses are both citing the wrong rule book(s). HS rules credit your daughter with both the out and the assist. Depending on your local rules, she might get an RBI, too.

The OP never stated whether his daughter's team was on offense or defense. The rules I quoted apply regardless, so I didn't feel the need to seek clarification.

Lol, HS scoring does use a rulebook that doesn't exist anywhere else.

Last year was my first year as official scorekeeper for my then freshman dd's varsity team. I was determined to keep a clean book and did so, although I strongly suspect the head coach edited it to make his dd look better. Then I saw the results of the all-district voting at the end of the season and realized a lot of players got credit where little was due. They either had .550 BA's with something like 15 plate appearances or an impressive pitching resume based on garbage time innings against weak teams (very often us).

Our team looks considrably better so far this year and I'll still keep a clean book but any "scorekeeper judgement" calls are going in favor whatever kid is wearing our uniform.

Since when do they get an assist when another fielder has an error? If you don't get a putout you can't have an assist.
If that's been changed please let me know where it is so I can update.

You are correct on the others. When there is an interference, leaving early, or any similar calls the fielder closest to the runner gets the putout.

I cited 2 sources - I guess you're unable to look it up yourself.

I don't know when this went into effect, but it wasn't recently. I do know baseball has been this way at least 8 years.

OBR 10.10 (a) The official scorer shall credit an assist to each fielder who
(1) throws or deflects a batted or thrown ball in such a way that a putout results, or would have resulted except for a subsequent error by any fielder.

ASA 11-2.B.5
b. To each player that handles or throws the ball in such a manner that a put out would have resulted except for an error of a teammate.

NFCA - Defense: Assists
1. An assist is credited to any fielder who deflects a batted or thrown ball and whose deflection helps make a putout possible, or the putout would have occurred had no succeeding error taken place.
2. An assist is credited to any fielder who throws a ball that results in a putout or would have resulted in a putout had no succeeding error occurred.
