Teams that post girls who got recruited

What's on your mind?

by Dugout Dad » Thu Sep 13, 2012 12:58 pm

The accomplishments and college scholarship follow the player not other way around. If a player leaves a top program for another top program , how can you not mention what college they are going to in the profile? Cross credit happens, no big deal.
I do have a problem with teams that take credit for a scholarship that a former player has earned year(s) after they left the team. For example, Suzy played with Team A in 2011 and left to play with Team B in 2012 and earns a scholarship with them. Team A posts on their website that Suzy is one of their scholarship players = not acceptable.

Again...Yes, it's shameful to take credit for another org's accomplishments

Last time I checked, the player was the one who earned her scholarship. She wrote the letters, made phone calls, kept good grades and played her a** off for many years. The organization didn't do it, she did it!! Let the player her take her accomplishment whereever she wants to and show it off....It's hers...SHE EARNED IT!!!!

There's a low level travel team here in San Diego that has done this. A girl was committed to a DI school for over a year and then went to this team for a few months after her Sr year and they took credit for it. This girl is listed on both sites with both of them taking credit.

Shameful...

LOL how do we go on knowing that two organizations are taking credit for where she is going to school. Shameful??? really?? or just kind of silly? You be the judge

Maybe someone's DD's org is doing the same thing, eh MavFan?

I call a spade a spade.

Again...Yes, it's shameful to take credit for another org's accomplishments.

So who, in your opinion, deserves the credit for the kid being recruited to play for XXXX college?

See previous answer to MavFan giving credit to player, parent and org.

I'm beginning to realize I'm stepping on a lot of toes here.

Lets get something straight. The team posting where their ex-players went or current players are committed or verballed does not take credit from the player, nor diminish their accomplishments. The player boasts their accomplishments on their Player Pages which are available on the team web page and handed out to recruiters at tournaments. The parents get to boast at the fields and at work....constantly.

Lets also make it clear that these Gold team coaches do little more than put these kids in highly recruitable situations. The kids they are showing as being recruited by X, Y, and Z schools were developed by their earlier coaching. These are the guys that actually deserve the credit for providing the guidance in developing these kids as recruitable players.

Let's get something straight...you're not doing anything to change my opinion.

Sorry Sam...you can stomp and stammer all you want. I have my opinion and you have another opinion.

Maybe the difference is that you're a coach and I'm a parent. Either way, you would probably be best suited to agree to disagree and move on. Or don't. I really don't care.

I'm a coach and a parent. That makes my opinion twice as informed and twice as compelling. So you can fully agree to disagree, while I can only half agree to disagree.....I did the math.

I absolutely agree with this. It is why these Gold coaches picked Lil Suzy to be on their team. Because of the level at which she is playing at. Do mainly to the coaches that "developed" her, along the way. Could be one, could be several.

So, in the end, who cares who posts the accomplishment? A lot of people are responsible for it. Mainly the player and her family, for all of the years of hard work and dedication.

I've seen girls wash out in fall for multiple reasons. Grades, homesickness, transfer to another school to be with boyfriend/girlfriend.

You just never know. The travel ball team making it up would be about last on my list for possible explainations.

So...lets get this straight. The only team that should take credit is the Gold or 16U team that got the kid after she was developed by her previous coaches. OK. Even though 95% of the Gold coaches out there don't teach these kids a thing or worse; teach them wrong techniques. Makes sense.

Just sayin' it's a little misleading. When a parent is shopping for a team at 16u and 18u and they look at the web sites they assume (I assumed) the kids listed as signed were signed through them. Parents are looking for the coaches and org. with College connections.

Really? We just wanted a team that would get her seen by always being on the good fields. The cache of a big team name was probably a bonus when writing letters (the thought being maybe the college coach would give the letter a second look even if he hadn't heard of her).

But we did all the leg work during the recuiting process ourselves. The team's college connections didn't enter into it.
