Having been born in NY and moving out to California when I was 5, I didn't get to appreciate the skyline like most New Yorkers did. I was lucky enough to go back there in March of 2001 and be able to see the storied Manhattan skyline and take a few pictures from Liberty Island with my DD in the foreground and the twin towers in background. We went back last year and took the same picture, in almost the same spot. Comparing the two, it was eerie how vastly changed that skyline was with those 2 buildings missing.
I will never forget the picture of my dd, who was 6 at the time, crying from walking so much in the freezing cold, whose tears turned to smiles just by getting Ben and Jerry's ice cream at the bottom of the tower #1, or walking thru the plaza and commenting at all the flags hanging from every country.
I will never forget the images from the news stations that morning, that week, that month.
I will never forget the scene as I went back last year, the vast space that was missing, how the surrounding buildings weathered the falling debree, the NYFD that was right next door.
I will never forget the sacrifices from the NYFD, the NYPD, the Military and all others who put other peoples lives ahead of their own. You are the true heroes.
So whatever theories you have, your religion or your beliefs, just take a second and remember what happened and give a hug to the ones you love.
