Questions and Discussions Regarding the College Recruiting process

by compete4evr » Mon Oct 15, 2012 10:49 am

Hello all, my daughter is Class of 2013 and has not made any calls to colleges. I think she wants me to call.

Any advice is appreciated.

You/she should fill out questionaires at colleges she is interested in. Statr e-mailing ASAP(from her e-mail address)

She needs to make the phonecalls

You are late in the process

Best opportunity is if your DD is currently on a good TB team that is getting exposure at Fall showcases.

As for calling, we don't know many kids that actually cold-called coaches like that. Email is obviously good, and as JonRiv said, send from your DD's account so it's coming from her. Might even try regular mail since coaches get SO much email, that regular mail might help her stand out from the crowd.

Find a few schools you're interested in and GO TO THEIR CAMPS. Some hold camps in Fall, some in January (before season), and some have summer camps. That's your guaranteed opportunity to be seen by the coaching staff of the schools you want.

Yes, it's late in the process, and there may not be much athletic money left, but depending on the school, and some possible academic money, there's still hope. Worst case situation: If your DD gets accepted to a school where she'll be competitive softball-wise, she can try walking-on during Fall tryouts.

Good luck.

Try to see if you (she) can schedule a meeting/interview. My DD had great success with this(via e-mail) If nothing else, the interviews are a great life lesson for future job interviews

Has she been at least writing letters? Does she have any leads on schools?

What part of the country are you in(and where are the schools)?

What level are you looking at DI. DII, DIII, or JUCO?

Does she have any idea of any schools?

My Daughter is now playing on a known organization in SoCal, so that has been great already. She does send out her schedule to coaches. She does get some responses but it is very general.

She is interested in colleges that are D1-2, NAIA pretty much across the country.

Thanks for all the input.

I will be honest- you and your DD are not in the most advantageous position. At this point most DI & DII schools have pretty much locked up their athletic $$$ for her year and are jsut waiting the formal anouncements- that does not mean there is nothing out there. This decision time- make a quick relationship with a coach and try to be an invited walk-on, enroll to a school(an get accepted to a school) and walk-on(not the easiest approuch) Perhaps look at a DIII school that may not have finished its recruiting yet(although they are near teh end too)

Whaever the decision- she/you need to get on the ball quick. You need to meet coaches, evaluate your chances... time is running out FAST
