MIT a softball power?

Everything you want to know about the greatest game

Following 19 straight losing seasons, MIT turned the corner, strung together winning seasons and even got to go to the NCAA DIII championship finals

I can't imagine how hard it is to recruit for that school and how small the pool of eligible players must be. Tough academics, not sports scholarships and tough STEM majors that are not usually associated with nor accomadating to student athletes

Thanks for sharing. I'm getting visions of Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting solving the math problems.:D
Can't imagine how bright a kid would have to be to balance sports and academics there. Way beyond my brain power!

Question was meant to be rhetorical, but I'll bite.....

I would consider any team that makes it to the finals, start the next season 9-0, leads a tough conference and is ranked nationally a "power", no? Albeit a D3 power.

The fact they are doing it with the constraints they have is incredible

I expect most of the credit goes to the young head coach with some to the AD for hiring and supporting her. http://www.mitathletics.com/sports/w-softbl/coaches/Williams_Jennifer?view=bio

She obviously recognizes talent and develops it. Roster has 5 players from CA, 2 from FL and others from OR, TX and WA - only 2 from New England.

MIT offers more than just STEM majors (e.g. Humanities), so it's impressive all on the roster are STEM majors other than 2 frosh undecideds.

See, I was right.

For Pete's sake, Babson swept them!
