Weather Continues to delay starts

Everything you want to know about the greatest game

by Inthestands » Tue Mar 31, 2015 8:11 am

Weather across the Northeast, New York, Michigan and the upper mid-west continues to delay and postpone games. With day time temperatures barely above freezing and night time temperatures well below freezing any exposed turf has been extremely slow to thaw and in many cases is still frozen. Add to that record snow fall over the winter in some parts, fields have yet to be snow free. Light snow is still falling regularly in northern and western NY and Michigan. Day time temps this weekend will not make it out of the 30's in many areas and the week ahead looks no better.

Many teams back from spring training in the south are now delayed for the second season, by winter that just does not know enough to quit.

Just returned from the east coast for a planned weekend of watching DD's games. 2 of the 4 were moved to later in the season due to filed conditions. At least they won the 2 we were able to see.

We were bundled up the whole time we were outside. Looked more like we were going skiing than to watch softball. This weekend doesn't look good either. I wonder what they are going to do to get in the league games this year without disrupting the academic part of thing too much.

Good luck to all.

Made our way down to Myrtle Beach back in mid March and enjoyed a nice week. Back in New York (her school is between Syracuse and Albany) and this weekend's games were postponed ...still snow on the fields....last week's openers were postponed.

They are hoping to play tomorrow as the home opener. The kids were out on the field with shovels trying to clear the heavier stuff last Friday. Hopefully that lets the sun take care of the light stuff still left.

The funny thing is that in the Toronto area (where we are from) the fields are clear and playable....her school in NY...still winter!

Western Mass.... both home and away teams traveled 60 miles to find a playable field, this one with artificial turf. Warmed up to the high 30's. Oh yippee !!!

Freezing rain yesterday postpones yet another game.

Next match up is tomorrow....time will tell.

The weekend has her team up the road in the Lake George area on Saturday and home on Sunday. I'll bet the game further north is postponed although the forecast is mid 40's...Sunday is the one that should become the home opener (should have been two weeks ago) as the temp is supposed to hit 60.
