The max lift is done once a semester as a benchmarking tool. They use an online system to track both during the season an off season. Btw no football at the school

What amazes me about my dd is that she does not look like she could lift that kind of weight. She is 5'5 and has a very slim athletic build

She has efficient joint angles, lucky her. Buff dudes have inefficient joint angles therefore huge muscles. Is the weight conditioning coach female? Guy weightlifting coaches, regardless if there is a football team, use a lot of football related exercises. Just my experience.

I don't often post here but read about the deadlift concerns. My dd was dead lifting 285 lbs which is over the 160% of body weight that an "Advanced" lifter can do. Then, her and one other teammate lifted 300 lbs. They were going to go for 325 when the strength coach stepped in and told them not to do it.

Anyone who thinks that your dd will not lift much in college is crazy. It is a part of their everyday routine and for most schools, they will begin somewhere around or before 6 a.m. IMO, it is as important to talk to the strength and conditioning coach as it is to talk to some assistant coaches. For my dd, she really respects her school's strength coach and he seems to have a lot of common sense.

When my kid was in school every player had a personalized routine that was geared to what position they played, what type of hitter they were, etc. With as much $$$ as people spend on hitting/pitching/catching lessons it might be worthwhile to find a knowledgeable sports trainer who can provide your kid with a routine that will enable her to get the highest ROI. Pay him for a 1 time consultation. Better yet, have him actually show her the proper technique for each type of lift. Hell, a one size fits all routine could actually hurt your kid's performance.

Just a thought.

The strength and conditioning coaches at the collegiate level work with the head coaches on a plan for every player. At least that is our experience. However, the lifts are the same and the speed/agility work is the same. The benchmark weights are a primary difference for each player. Those are established a couple of times a year. One is before players go home for breaks. Players are expected to get their work in while at home. My dd has set up times at her college for the coming week and her strength/conditioning coach has established times when he will be available for athletes. We are fortunate that we only live 34 minutes from the university that my dd plays at. When the players come back, they will all meet in the weight room and will workout each morning. At some point in that first week back, they will be measured against the benchmarks that they left with. BTW, my dd's school does not do this but many also do a weigh in when players return.
