I know there have been several posts about wieghtlifting- pros and cons and just how much the girls do in college

My DD just did their "max" lifts, should I be concerned if some of her lifts are close to mine?? :D

It's bad to be old.
Weight lifting is fine, but I always thought that speed agility were more important.

If the girls are not being taught proper technique, it can be dangerous. Especially the deadlift!!! Not using your legs and gluts correctly could injure your lower back (severely)!!! I'm hoping that these coaches do not have the pitchers doing overhead lifts, those done incorrectly, could ruin their shoulders.

I've seen many deadlifts that make me cringe, I’m just happy that I have OLY lifting coach that trained me the correct way. Now if only my old HS softball injury in my shoulder didn't bug me so much, my snatch's would be AWESOME!!!! :D

Only if your brother-in-law is catching up too...
jonriv wrote:For those who think there might not be any weightlifting in college. My DD's team had to do a "max lift" yesterday to determine there lifting benchmarks. Found out my sweet little princess can bench and squat more than my brother-in-law. I used to worry about guys she dated and how I should interrogate them. Now I feel I should just warn them.

I guess it's a good thing this is your DD's last year.

She has become quite a gym rat and runner. I hope she keeps it up. No chance of my brother and law catching up, she's way past him. Made my son nervous, he headed to the gym at his college and had a trainer develop a workout schedule. Does not want her to pass him too

I hope she is careful, and not get caught up with "max" lifting. Seen a couple shoulder injuries from lifting. For softball, it should be lifting for strength, not lifting for power. Two players I know have had labrum tears from lifting. Many of these conditioning coaches are also conditioning coaches for the football team, two different beasts.
