Attention all Freshman

Everything you want to know about the greatest game

by NumeroUno » Tue Sep 02, 2014 2:44 pm

Attention Freshman who are moving into your dorm.
A little request: When your Mom wants to unpack your clothes and make your bed, let her
When your dad wants to introduce himself to all the people on your floor, let him
When they are taking pictures of everything you are doing, let them
If they are embarrassing and acting crazy, let them
As you start a new chapter in your life they are also starting a new chapter in theirs.
And believe it or not this is probably more difficult for them than it is for you.
So let them treat you as a baby one last time.

Uno, are you reading my mind? I'm kinda having a hard time with it. I really miss her even more than I thought I would. I was fine on moving day up until I got home and her car wasn't here. I suppose you get used to it after a while but for now I'm a blubbering idiot.

You could add...WHEN YOUR DAD SAYS CALL HIM EVERY OTHER DAY FOR NOW...HE MEANS IT...

New app out...Parents can invoke it for missing calls......ONLY thing they can do is call that parent back, once app is activated...
Oh yes...unless they create one that works like a tazer...My kids phones will have that app....

This is a wonderful post. I hope it was you and your family..
Not to be mean,,,,it's just a hiccup of independence. You're not the first on this track.
You two are such parents. Remember,,far enough for independence, close enough for loving guidance.
I think at 18,,,they could still us it,,,my dd does.
I just need those last two wires hooked to her brain. ;)
I see further, because I stand on the shoulders of giants

You are not alone on this one. Freshman year was tough, last year a little easier, I'm ok this year, still miss her a bunch though. DD was cool, has allowed us to do all the above :D

Both kids are in college now. Dd a senior and son a freshman. Wife and I are defacto empty-nesters-which of course has some advantages ;) , but I have lost anyone else to blame when things go wrong. It is both a happy and sad time. E-mails, text messages etc.. Make communications so much easier than when I went to school

Last year taking our freshman kid to college was pretty tough for my wife and I, but not our kid.
We got there on a Thursday, and by Friday she was looking at us like "Why are you still here?"

This year was easier, but still missing the brat. She also made the 700 mile drive herself with a teammate, so that worried us a little, but she got there. We went up the following day with the rest of her stuff, and again, we could have left the next day as far as she was concerned.

Trust me, you want your kid to not be too sad, and to be ready to be on her own. You don't want that call a few weeks later saying she is miserable and wants to come home to mommy and daddy.Although our kid does call or text now and then, it's usually something like "I have $7 in my account, can you put money in?"

You will most likely get to see her at Fall break, Thanksgiving, Christmas, they all come pretty fast. Before you know it, she is back home for the summer, increasing all the utility bills and depleting all the food supplies again.
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.
