Recent Commits- Beware

Everything you want to know about the greatest game

First off to all the recent commits that have been made over the last couple of weeks, congrats on making it to the next level. Now beware of the next level.
1. If the college packet you receive from your school says to run 3 miles a day, Run 6.
2. Weight training if you bench 100 you better get that up to 150 at least.
3. EM is not enough it's a good foundation but nothing will prepare you for the hell you will be entering.
4. Have heard of at least (5) girls from our small So Cal travelball world quit after the first month of D1 softball. All (5) played on teams that were in Premier every year.
5. Depending on where you go the elements can also be tough. We had to send a box of cold gear beacause they practice early mornings and in my DD area you have to layer your clothing. In So Cal we're still wearing shorts and flip flops till December.
6. Prepare them for "Peer Pressure"

I'm not trying to scare anyone but I'm not going to lie here my DD and her TB teamates that made it to D1 schools across the nation have had bootcamp like workouts and funny thing is I heard it was tough but not this bad. So to the 2013 you have a whole year to prepare physically and mentally because it will not be a walk in the park.
Funny thing to me was we prepare our girls to play (5) games on Sunday just in case and you prepare for that. In college you will never play more than 2 if I recall correct. So why all these extreme workouts to make them mentally tough? I'm glad my DD has worked through it but her school did lose a solid player this week due to workouts being so tough. She tells me the softball part is easy. :D

My oldest daughters school wookouts were similar to those described. Alot like bootcamp. They break you down mentally and physically to make you into the type of player they want to play for them. It also weeds out the uncommited.

My daughters coach used the exact workout regimen that was then used by the LSU football program.

It's hard to party all night when morning workouts begin at 5am.
And yes I got the dad I hate it here and want to come home phone calls. Of course my response was quit whining and grow up. She thanks me to this day for the extra push to tough it out.

ft

good luck to the girls...they are tougher than we think.

I suppose it varies from school to school. So far, my D1 DD is doing great as well as all her D1 travel team mates and friends, conditioning was hard, but survived. I would guess that most athletes that do EM and complete the summer workouts would be able to survive any conditioning, but maybe not. I wonder of the mentioned players that dropped, were also having academic issues?

So they are done with softball completely, are they going to transfer, if not, what about their scholarships?

I think this might be the case more so on the east coast right now where most of the teams have completed their fall ball schedule. Mine just did and now the workouts are REALLY intense. My DD said at least 2 of the girls were throwing up at the end of the workouts this week and all survived the pre-fall ball workouts just great which they thought were intense at the time. My DD said it was REALLY tough and the off season is just starting. I know most of the girls out here are just starting fall ball this weekend so be warned for after the season..... :!:

My DD has been doing the Insanity workout for over a year when not working out at school and swears by it. Other kids on the team were doing it with her over the summer. The conditioning program they use at her school is fairly tough. In the first couple of weeks of the school year there are conditioning tests that the players have to keep taking until they pass. I've heard they aren't a lot of fun. Show up out of shape at your own peril.

BTW, given the competition for starting positions on a given team, how much everyone wants at bats and the fact that every year new kids are coming in to compete which may be bigger/stronger/faster/better hitter than a given kid, it seems like it might be a good idea to make weight training and conditioning a consistent priority before you start college ball and as long as your playing.

Oh wait. Every incoming freshman knows precisely who she will be competing with for playing time, is so skilled that they will start immediately and doesn't need to worry about being in shape. Never mind.

Same here - DD2 saw it and loves it - DD1 does it because she doesnt want DD2 kicking her arse.

Dodger makes some great points. Too many Freshmen go into the fall woefully unprepared for the workouts, the pressure, and the demands on their time. Although there are no 5 game Sundays, the college season is a grind with lots of games and lots of travel. DD described it as an extra long HS season, but with every games like a Sunday elimination game. Too many players(parents) also think their DD will just walk-in and start first year, only to be put in their place. Those who do not heed Dodger's advice do at their own peril.
