Sorry Suzy, I don't care if you have a couple of tests on Friday, your minion team needs to play on Friday.

So why do it other than to make money? If you get an invite to the On Deck camp you go because you are one of a limited number of players being seen by a huge number of colleges. How many college coaches will be at any given game on Friday with On Deck and 3 different locations, 16 different fields and 64 different teams playing in the PGF event? I guess if you make it to late Saturday or Sunday you might have some activity but Friday will be a waste of time for recruiting. D9 is also not great for girls having to miss school but with its established history, 200+ colleges in attendance, etc. it is good calculated risk to take if you want to play back East. PGF should have had a standard tourney format with pool play Saturday and single Elimination Saturday Night / Sunday and they could still pick up activity from all of the colleges that came out for the On Deck event. And we haven't even discussed the other 100+ teams playing in the regular Surf City Showcase event.

On Friday we had about 10-15 schools at our 8:30 am game, 15-20 at our 11:30 & 3:30 games. Complete waste of time

However I do agree that we have too many events running on Fridays. Kids are missing 4-5 days of school in some cases for the first semester. The only way to change it will be an NCAA rule change banning weekday recruiting otherwise we are going to continue to get this for the larger elite showcase events

I stand corrected, was dead wrong on that one. We played 3 at La Bonita and it was loaded with schools for sure. Still think its a bad idea all the missed days but agree that it probably won't change.

Just curious-does the fact that these coaches attended on Friday(a school day) put into question their commitment to their player's academics?

Well, Fridays are convenient for college coaches, many have fall games on the weekends right now, at least for the SoCal colleges.

I expect Friday's pool games were attractive to college coaches since all the matchups were known in advance. Were the first round games on Saturday predetermined too or were the brackets seeded based on pool results? (I expect they weren't seeded.)

How was attendance for the consolation games on Sunday?

First round games were pre-determined but coaches only guaranteed to see 1 game of a specific team if they lost. 20+ schools at Saturday game. 2 at consolation. Heard some teams chose not to even play that game.

Not that I have any reason to defend this tournament nor the decision-makers, but there could be any number of reasons why the difference in coach attendance.

1) Already saw what I need to see in first game,
2) Using that time slot to see someone else,
3) There's a more favorable match-up on another field/site/tournament,
4) That's when I planned to leave, anyway,
5) That's when I planned dinner/conversation/personal time,

and so on.

You could be right. You didn't win the game, so you didn't win the coach following. Is that the format, or the fact that you didn't win?

Or it could mean nothing.

Turn out was excellent Friday and most games Saturday... We were all surprised by the number of schools and the quality of softball school. Normally they are hit and miss in smaller events with local schools or small D1. To see SEC, Big 12, ACC, Big 10 is full force was surprising. I'm talking entire coaching staffs. Helped the On Deck event was prior to tournament.

If any DD can't handle missing a single day of high school then she has no business being a college athlete at any level. I've asked that question and that was the universal reply I have received in a nut shell.

I would flip it and say the DD's commitment to her sport should be put into question... Just sayin!
