PGF Changes for 2015

Questions and discussions involving PGF

by PDad » Tue Dec 09, 2014 4:26 pm

I noticed a couple of changes on PGF's National Championships page and confirmed them with jmo.

PGF is adding 10U and it will be the same week as 12U and 18U. It doesn't appear on the qualifiers because all the teams (32??) will be invited. It will be interesting to see whether PGF stretches their bracket out to the usual 5 days.

14U and 16U has been pushed back 2 weeks (i.e. after 18U, 12U and 10U). Div-I schools get a fresh set of 50 eval days on Aug 1. The line up for TCS, ASA and PGF nationals will be:

7/14-17 TC/USA Nats (Reno/Tahoe, NV)

7/19-25 ASA Gold (Hillsboro/Salem, OR)
7/26-8/2 ASA Class A (various)

7/24-31 PGF 10U, 12U & 18U
8/1-8 PGF 14U & 16U

I believe it's a bad idea to move the 14U/16U into August, not that anyone is asking me :D . First of all, if the main reason is that Div I gets a new slate of 50 days, everyone needs to understand that is a one time benefit. Next year they will have used the days at the beginning of the calendar and thus have less to spread across the rest of the year. So that is a very short sighted benefit There are 2 major issues with August dates, at least in my area. First, balanced school calendars are all the rage around here (you know the educators like to go with the new hottest thing). More and more school corporations are going to them and alot of those actually start school on 8/3. So now, student athletes will have to make a choice to compete or miss school. The second issue I see is that fall sports seasons begin on 8/3 here, as well. We don't have enough multisport athletes anymore and this is just one more roadblock to that. Plus, we're talking 16U and 14U. Some of these kids are just entering middle school and shouldn't have to decide to give up a sport at this point. Just my $.02.

14U and 16U just entering MIDDLE School?

You must be from Texas where parents purposely hold back their children for sports....then, they are 19 or 20 their senior year of high school and can dominate. They might not be able to read or write, but heck, they can dominate the little 16 and 17 year olds!

:D

Right!!! Lefty can keep his change. Sorry in Cali I'm not aware of any school beginning 8/3. This guy is for sure not from Cali. End of the day it's a few days from school for a chance to be National Champion... Who cares!
