Not sure why it matters whether they speculate before or after. The point is still the same...if you're shaving your bat for your kid, odds are in the end, whether the end is the next level of travel or in college, things are going to go very badly for that girl.

Speculating that the level of play in the National Championship is unduly high due to cheating parents is a stretch, in my opinion. Is there a handful of deceitful parents who would do anything to improve their kid's performance? I'm sure there are, but the high level play demonstrated this week doesn't need to be painted with that brush. Cheater's will be caught sooner or later and I'll bet they will be called out by another parent on their team.

I'm not disagreeing with that at all. But I don't think the poster that made the original comment was going as far as to say that all the level of play was "unduly high due to cheating". I took his comment to relay an observation about a few players that seemed to obviously have shaved bats.

I just finished watching the 12U championship and it's obvious that there was a very high level of play. You shouldn't take the OP's comment to mean that he felt everyone was cheating and that the players were not extremely talented.

Whats the over/under on the number of shaved bats being used at 12u PGF? You should've seen some of the balls Ive seen hit, and the size of the kids hitting them, and the swings they are hitting them with.

I know this isn't your post, but I will bite: how can you tell by watching that a girl is using a shaved bat? Small girl, bad swing and ball hits the fence? I'm here to learn.

I'll let the OP answer to what specifically he saw if he would like, but I think a lot of us have seen the 250 foot pop-up HR from a girl that's 12 yrs old, 5 ft tall and 80 lbs soaking wet that has caused us to take pause and wonder.

Seems like were all on the same page. Sure, a little girl hitting a huge bomb makes us wonder; but the level of play and the skill of the girls on display this week at PGF was, by and large, due to natural ability, hard work, and good coaching.

Shaving bats has been going on for years and will continue unless there is testing prior to tournament. It is a sad state of affairs that even the lower age groups are even having the discussion. Any parent that condones this behavior should have that parental rights taken away. The messages it sends are so wrong on every level. Just my 2 cents.
