PGF 18 HS on TV

Questions and discussions involving PGF

by PDad » Sat Aug 10, 2013 8:23 pm

I watched today's earlier broadcast and thought it was excellent - announcers, interviews and camera coverage. The only slip-up I noticed was Daron Sutton saying the winning run was 90 feet away...

The game was very good too...

18 premier makes it's lone appearance Sunday on ESPNU 10am.
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.

Don't get me wrong, Deanna Manning Stadium is a great venue for the PGF Championship, but that backstop metal mesh is terrible for the TV camera. For those who have not been there, it has rather unique backstop metal panels. I would suggest:

1. Paint the backstop metal mesh flat black to reduce the sun reflection off the galvanized coating. It would be easier for the TV camera lens and "see through" the mesh if was flat black.
2. Temporally remove some of the heavy gauge metal mesh panels and replace it with a lighter fabric net for the broadcast.
3. Use another venue for the TV games.

The only views affected by the mesh are the outfield plays, HR's and infield plays, it is only one camera vantage, but an important one. The other camera angles were excellent. Of course, I know, the city of Irvine would have an issue with any changes done to their great complex.

Just offering some honest feedback.

Mark Campbell talked about CSUF fences being deeper, so I looked it up -
Dimensions (Left-Center-Right): 190’-220’-190’

CSUF Seating Capacity: 1,000 + "a beautifully landscaped grassy knoll that runs from foul line to right centerfield in the outfield."

There is a generation of Americans who probably wouldn't consider a"grassy knoll" to be an ideal location.

Yeah, that's why I quoted it. I primarily saw kids out there during the college events.
