Maybe it was the first meaningless pool games and the scorekeepers were just getting up and running and trying to work any bugs out. Maybe the oaches didn't properly report all their substitutions to the scorekeepers since they were meaningless pool games thereby leading to inaccurate stats. Maybe a parent shouldn't get so upset about stats in a meaningless pool game and everything will work out just fine as the bracket games get going.

Are coaches required to report changes to the umpire and the scorekeeper, or to the umpire who then announces the change to, presumably, the home team scorebook? The home team keeps the official book, right? At least that's how I always understood it.

From prior year's experience with HS Division at HB Park:

PGF hires a number of college age players to keep the stats; JMO has been their coordinator/trainer in past years, may be someone else this year (from NumeroUno responses, it may be in his purview this year). The top major issue has been the teams' failure to give the scorekeepers complete and accurate rosters; once a team's roster is loaded in any one game, it is accessible to all future games. The second major issue has been the teams' failure to give the scorekeepers their starting lineups prior to game time, so that the girls have the time to enter the lineups to start the game.

Once the game starts, it is the plate umpire's responsibility to report all substitutions (and defensive changes, as well, IF THE COACH REPORTS THEM) to the official scorekeeper, as well as to the opposing coach; in THIS tournament, as well as many others, the home book is just THEIR book, not the official book. Most of the girls in prior years have been very conscientious in attempting to keep up, and have often asked for help in judging how to best score a play (hit vs error, fielder's choice, whatever).

Amazing technology that allows us to "watch" the games!
As a novice scorekeeper on the iPad, I know how difficult it is to keep up sometimes.

Great job to whomever is keeping scores!
Keep 'em coming.

Ignore the stats -- they were messed up last year too, but WHO CARES.. like everyone says, the college coaches are looking at the players on the field, their skills, attitudes and how they interact with others (teamates, coaches, parents, etc) -- and how they deal with failure -- they know stats aren't correct and probably could care less anyhow..
