This kind of thing seems to happen every year with every organization(ASA,PGF,NSA, PONY etc.....) This is not a PGF only issue, I hope that they use tis as an opportunity to do the right thing and set the example. Frankly I think it sucks! The only time IMO teams should be allowed to add to their roster for national or regional tournaments is:
1) Injury or illness
2) Player who can't make the trip
Never should a player be able from one team that is in the tournament to another-period. Stacking teams with extra players is unfair to the integrity of the game and unfair to the players that have been with the team all season. Play the players that got you there. Win or lose with those players. All organizations and governing bodies should work to stop this nonsense. Does winning the tournament mean anything if you do it with a team stacked with players from other organizations at the last minute. Frankly I would question the coach's ability, since obviously they question it themselves

So your answer that PGF has to handcuff kids to coaches, even when there are plenty of examples where coaches are the ones that screwed it up?
There is no right answer. PGF would be smart to deal with these the best they can, as they come up. They would also be smart to realize they are like King Solomon in these issues. There is no win, there is some opportunity to make things worse.

PGF is a little different, because of they are in their infancy, there are still qualifiers that don't make, especially at the younger age groups, and at large berths are granted after the qualifiers are over. If they feel that will continue, they can put a rule in that says rosters from the qualifiers are frozen until such a time that all berths have been awarded and accounted for. At that point the roster jockeying can begin.

If both teams are going to a championships, does it really make sense that players be able to move from one team to another??? Players should stick with the team they signed on for and coaches should stick with the players that got them there, IMO. Perhaps there may be exceptions, but I would think they are far and few between. I also did not single PGF out- these kind of things go on in all versions of alphabet soup.

I agree, you did not single out PGF. I also agree that kids should, in most cases, stick out their end of the commitment. When I have seen this in the past, coaches often did not stick out their end of the commitment. Yet people feel kids need keep theirs, even when the coach does not. You will never know what happened in this particular situation, so it is impossible to say.
It is impossible for one organization to police a team that may be going to a different organizations nationals. What can they possibly do?
Illness or someone can't make the trip? Ok, coaches daughter is on the team, not feeling and looks like she may not make the trip. Add pickup player, daughter makes miraculous recovery.
You have to be realistic. Only so much ASA, PGF, whomever can do in these situations. It is an on the team issue.

I agree with you here- I hate when coaches pick-up a few players for nationals that then play more than original players. I also agree that it is difficult to police, but warning flags should be heeded. If both team A & B are going to the same nationals and players jump from a to B- someone with authority should say WTF.
We had a circumstance a few years ago were a coach contemplated taking an additional "guest" pitcher- he decided against it, he felt it would not be fair to those who were here all season, went to practice, and had paid to be members. Could we have gone deeper, maybe...., but at what cost?
