At Large births this year?

Questions and discussions involving PGF

by Safebyahare » Mon Jun 18, 2012 10:40 am

Last year there were a few at large berths given out to fill in some voids.
Will there be at large berths this year?
How many are allocated for 18's, 16's, 14's and 12's?? Or predicted?
I tried to look how many were last year and failed. But I did see this one.

I can't answer your question, but I do know that in 14u, there are currently 5 unissued berths due to cancellation of the Colorado (2 berths) and Georgia (3 berths) 14u qualifiers. How or if they will be distributed remains to be seen, and whether or not any additional at-large berths will be given out remains to be seen. I guess we will all have to wait until all of the qualifiers are done and PGF sees what the field of teams looks like before they make that decision.

If they do issue them- they should be to someone who has not attended before and somewhere outside California.(preferably somewhere they have not had much market penetration yet)

If they do issue berths, then they need to issue them based on performance at a PGF qualifier, preferably the most attended qualifers. Why would you invite teams that didn't have enough interest in your event to attempt to qualify to begin with?

IMHO it is a slap in the face to teams that did attempt to qualify if they just randomly select a team that hasn't attended or isn't deserving just because of their geographical location.

Any more of a slap than the current invites?

Teams traveled and earned berths out of their regions. Award at-large berths to local teams based on order of finish. Number of berths would be based on original allocation.

Balance of berths distributed can then be based on number of teams participating in qualifiers.

If you have read my posts, you know I am not a fan at all of the invite. However, for the most part, all of the teams that were invited, at least played in a PGF qualifier or national. The exceptions being the teams that were awarded berths by placing in the top 4 at ASA last year. example being Team North Florida.

They should add an additional qualifier where ever the best turnout was, probably So Cal.
