Great job by both teams. I'm sure there may have been a lot of bets lost in trying to guess who would come out with the berths. See you at PGF!

:D

Yes, apparently the concept of getting the berth vs continue playing like it's a tournament was lost on some...PGF plays until a berth is given, ASA has a tournament with top 10 or whatever teams get berth but continue playing to get a champion of that tournament. Yet another way the two organizations are verrrry different...

Interesting discussion, but the facts are that the bracket showed not only a championship game, but yet another game if the one loss team beat the undefeated team. If PGF "only plays until a berth is given" then PGF wouldn't include two games that aren't meant to be played on their bracket.

This isnt rocket science, but I will type slow for you anyways so try and keep up.

At the fields, the posted 14u bracket didnt have a winner or if game, simply a line that said "Berth 1" for the last team in the winners bracket and a line that said "Berth 2" for the last team in the losers bracket. At 16s, with 2 berths going to the the last two in the winners bracket, there was no need to even send one of the two to the losers bracket.

If the last 2 in the winners bracket got the berths, then there's no need for a losers bracket at all. This is commonly called single elimination.
Ladies, if a man tells you he will fix it, he will fix it. There is no reason to remind him about it every six months.

Generic brackets were used...

Initially, it appears generic brackets were used, and the correction to the brackets posted were not done.

If you look at the times of those last games they didn't make sense. The tourney director was questioned and it was explained that the undefeated team at the end of the winners bracket would get the first birth. The last team with one loss at the end of the looser bracket would get the second birth. Case closed, two teams, two births. Here was the problem....

The Winners final game was scheduled to be played at 10:00am Sunday on field #6
Firecrakers Kay vs BatBusters Ybarra

The looser dropped down and had to wait until 3:00pm to play the winner of the semi final looser bracket game that didn't start until 1:00pm Sunday on field #6. OC Elite vs Team Arizona.

So now you have two teams with one loss, OC Elite vs BatBusters Ybarra that started at 3:00pm with a 1:45 no new or 7 innings rule.

If you look at the bracket that Bug is referring to, it shows Firecrackers Kay playing OC Elite for the "Championship" and then an IF game after that, and you see the time listed for those games, the times don't work. The first game between the two was listed to start at 2:00pm on field #3, and the IF game was to start at 3:00pm on field #6. Doesn't work with the looser bracket games. Now if you are a manager or a coach and you see this and you don't get a clarification before the first game starts, SHAME ON YOU.

With the exception of a little heat, everything about this tourney was done right. The facilities were great, the people were all friendly, and the accommodations where we stayed were perfect. Many thanks to everyone involved with putting together and running this tourney. Great Job.

Congratulations to Firecrackers Kay and OC Elite for earning their births to Premier Nationals.

When the brackets came out they sent this with the atatchment.

Good morning. The draw has been completed and the schedule finalized.

There are some rule changes that I have attached to this email. The major changes are the 1:45 no new inning, tie-breaker immediately following the 1:45 or 7 innings.

Also, the tournament will be played to the amount of teams left based on the berth's available in that age group. Ex: If your age group has 2 Berth's, we will play til one team is left in the Winner's bracket, and one team left in the loser's bracket. If you have 3 Berth's in your age group, we will play til there is one team in the Winner's bracket and two teams left in the loser's bracket. The team that drops out of the loser's bracket last will be considered the 1st Runner-up and the other team 2nd Runner-up.

The 14U & 16U division will be played at Rio Vista sports complex. The 18HS will be played at Sunrise Mountain High School.

Rio Vista Sports complex has space in between the fields to warm-up as well as a few soccer fields next to the softball fields.

I will locate a few places near Sunrise MT HS and email those coaches.

Please be sure to print your roster, with pictures, and bring that along with your proof of insurance to the check-in. Please check-in at least 30 minutes prior to your first scheduled game. You will receive a packet upon check-in that will include the rules, tournament bracket and a list of activities and local area restaurants.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

As hot as it was, I'm sure no one was complaining about not having to play the extra games.
