12U teams playing in 14U

by gogether » Tue Oct 06, 2015 9:32 am

I've been seeing a few 12U teams playing in 14U brackets. I feel that if they are so good for this areas other 12U teams they should look for tougher competition somewhere else instead of staying in Sacramento. What do y'all think.

I think you sound a tad jealous.

Sounds like you may be referring to one 12U team that is playing up and having some success. If that team played 12u local tournaments, they could fall asleep on the field and walk away with the trophy. Frankly, the competition that they are seeing at the local 14u tournaments isn't much better than what they'd see in 12u. The better 2nd year 14's are off playing better competition or attending showcases, and the two really solid first year 14 teams from NorCal aspire to greater things than to play a local ASA tournament.

Let this team in question enjoy the ride. No doubt, if they went to SoCal they would get a butt whoopin' by some teams, but they would benefit from the experience.

I dont see a problem here. They are playing UP not down. Playing up allows them to face bigger/stronger/faster girls and makes them better. As long as they compete when playing up I say go for it. It would be a different story if they were getting smashed every tournament they played up in.

If the 14U team you are referring to does not like that a 12U is showing up your team, then maybe your team does not belong in that league. You might want to send them to a lower league where they all share the same type of competitiveness. Let them enjoy the glory of playing up.
