Top 12u Teams for fall

by quietstorm02 » Fri Dec 05, 2014 7:56 am

Great post, Moose, and I couldn't agree more. I know that we live in a microwave society where more people than ever seem to want desired results right away and if a team isn't winning as often as the parents want and it looks like another season might be needed for a team to come together, they jump ship.

Obviously, we can really only worry about our own teams, but with that in mind, it's worth saying that the overall quality of softball - and thus our players' opportunity to develop - declines when so many dads feel they have to be coaching DD's team or coaches don't actually want to build strong teams from 10s to 12s and would rather try to assemble "super-teams" instead. It's never a surprise when those experiments don't exactly work out and people start bailing before the flagship season is even over. There were more new teams in the fall than were needed and while some of them already lost half their players or disbanded altogether, for there to be even more new 12u teams coming in the spring is ridiculous.

The majority of parents - and, of course, players - are just along for the ride, so if just a few coaches could get out of their own way and abandon their oversized egos, it might be possible to build a team or few up here that would have a chance of winning a couple of bracket games at Nationals.
