"Team needs #1 Pitcher" ads

by CrushersDad » Fri Dec 11, 2009 4:12 pm

It seems that in NorCal there are a lot of teams that are advertising that they need a #1 pitcher. Most of the ads that I see are for 14U and 16U, some are from very well known organizations.

Is there a shortage of good pitchers? ...or is the pitching pool too far diluted by so many teams?

Have you not been paying attention at tournaments?

Of course there is a shortage of good pitchers.

Yes, I know that there is a shortage of good pitchers. I am wondering why that is.

I don't have the answer, but am curious to find out why! We saw some solid, but not fantastic pitching at 14u level last season and I must say we only saw one or two strong ones at 16u in the Fall, but maybe the better ones were up at 18's? It seems that most of the time they are looking for #1 pitchers and #1 catchers as they are hard to come by. Maybe the diluted talent pool and too many teams? Sorry I could not answer the question though!

IDK about who is a #1 or not, that all depends on the level of talent that already exist on any given pitching staff. A #1 on one team might not see the circle on another team. I can say that as far as 16's in NorCal we are lucky, we have three girls that if we threw any one of them you would not know who the #1 was, they are all very good. They all get there fair share of innings in any given tourney/showcase, and who ever has the best stuff that weekend throws against the better teams, and that may vary from week to week. They all can play other spots as well ( so they stay HAPPY), very athletic and can hit.
