I own the series and it is fantastic. I try to find a week in the summer each year to just sit down and watch it from start to finish. A buddy of mine and I went to Memphis to try to talk to Shelby Foote. We were headed to Shiloh.

Kid goes to a school not far from Shiloh...
Ive never been there...Been to Vicksburg, Petersburg, Gettysburg and to Chickamauga...couldn't spend much time at Chickamauga or Gettysburg...would love to go back...and I will be going to Shiloh...
I have the series also...in VHS (shows how old it is) :)...Watch the 1863 'A very Bloody Affair 'episode yesterday on Netflix...

Its something you have to actually watch and pay attention to...personally I think it should be mandatory viewing for every kid by the 9th grade...
Show them what 'reality' looks like...

Great documentary. Last time I checked it was still on Netflix.
learning more background on the famous generals was great, but it is the minor players that bring the story to life. They talk about one family (Mclein?) that was unfortunate enough to have the first battle of Bull run fought on their farm and fortunate enough to have Lee surrender in his house after he moved to Appomatox.

Excuse me if the names are wrong, I am working from shoddy memory here, but damn...what are the odds?
