I completely disagree. The time for kumbaya is past. Shoot to kill orders should be given for anyone who turns to looting.

So let me get this straight, everyone on this site who has been fearing the militarization of the police and warning of martial law- are now calling for it?

I've trained in riot and crowd control- you are always looking to de- escalate and to avoid confrontation as much as possible. The initial police response was over the top and and help to escalate. The non-stop news brings out every attention getter in the country.

They need to work with community leaders, isolate and remove the troublemakers

So the national guard shooting a few people will calm things down? Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I like jonriv's argument . Sense,,,,,,common sense and staying in the rule of thought.
Consistent thinking

I watched reality TV last night. The commentators were questioning the police tactics.
I thought them to be brilliant. The body snatcher technique.
Plain clothed officers mingle in crowd and pick out the trouble makers.
They call in and a small squad rushes in and snatches him. End of problem.
I watched a guy who I even recognized from the previous night get snatched.
Black guy, long dread locks in back, white shirt, same face, and easy pick.
Sure the cops started out slow but someone gave them a clue.
Side streets will be an issue for the next couple nights, they will end quickly with no cameras.
My fear is not what is happening now.
It is when they find that the cop did no wrong.
That is when predators with a vengeance shows up in any city or town to equal the cost or to justify themselves.
Rioting is for kids. Revenge is a different subject.
We have been around this track before. The stupid track.

We are not stopped for Driving While Black. Is it better, of course, but it is still there.. I understand the frustration that these other victims don't get the same attention as they should, but the media puts on what sells- controversy sells. You are dead on that the Al Sharptons and Jesse Jacksons of the world would love for it to continue.

If you think the only racism there is, is white on black then you've got your head in the sand. You don't think black cops stop white folks for being white? I know for a fact it happens. White men getting turned down for jobs when they are the most qualified for the job compared to the one that got it....When they ask why, they get told you're the wrong race and the wrong sex. If you take it to the EEO, you basically get laughed out of the office.
You better wake up to what's really happening. When a cop uses excessive force, it's not a race thing. It's a cop on civilian thing. To a dirty cop, justice is really just us. I'm not saying this cop was dirty because I agree with you about letting the facts come out. There are so many white folks being killed and beatin the same way. The only reason you hear so much about blacks being beaten is black folks acutally have the courage to stand up for each other.

Actually as far as shooting looters, it works and has before...
Its happened in areas after hurricanes before...Now I'm not talking about food, water etc...
Roll a couple and the word gets around...

How do you think the shooting at troops, cops etc ended so quickly in NOLA?
And it wasn't the Magic Fairy

AND...in case you missed it, Ol Ray Nagin, beloved mayor of NOLA, just got convicted of fraud and bribery DURING Katrina is headed to 10yr vaca....

There's a basic lesson to be learned here, I think.

Everyone needs to understand that when you decide to break the law there will likely be consequences and those consequences may be grave.

Stay out of trouble and do what's right. It's that simple.

And if you don't...well then don't expect us to feel sorry for you if something bad happens. You had a choice to make and you made it. Try to think about somebody besides yourself before you make that choice.
