The articles seem pretty nonchalant about someone arriving from West Africa as if they were on vacation or something. Isn't travel restricted from the area?

According to JR, Dallas is a village in Africa - no need to worry, it will never get here.

No what I said that even if were to come the chances of some mass breakout were little to none. Having basic sanitary systems and a real health infrastructure(which is not present in west Africa) while basic treatment(isolation and electrolyte replacement) make survival more common outcome.

The media has played this up by reporting the cdc's worst case scenarios. The cdc plans for worst case scenarios(that's there job). The media likes those scenarios because it sells papers and advertising/commercials

Ebolas what...a 90% mortality rate?...And seems pretty easy to catch based on all the 'experts' who keep getting it...based on the 'expertise' at avoiding it?

So with IVs and such...its what 60-75%% mortality...wow...I feel safer...

Ebola has a 70% mortality rate if not treated properly

15% if treated properly

So far in the US 0%(although small sample group)

What makes this disease so deadly and viralant in western africa is the very poor sanitary conditions, the almost non existent medical infra-structure, cultural fears about modern medicine and a mistrust of anything "western" In a modern western country a disease like Ebola has little chance of being a major epedemic(unlike other airborne diseases)

So how did the western, well-nourished, healthy doctors catch it? They were wearing protective gear and taking all the precautions.

Because they were operatining in inadequate and overwelmed facilities and obviously did not take all the precautions. These facilities and health care providers over there are inundated.

But I guess you would rather start a chicken-little panic here :D
