Great, put 3000 troops at risk. What are the UN and WHO for? Yet he won't send personnel to protect our border.

US to send 3,000 troops to Ebola danger zone as Obama administration shuffles military's mission in Africa

Pr. The body bags etc were ordered by the state department, one can assume to send to africa( since the state department deals with FOREIGN affairs). If the troops are as stated- medical,engineers, transport etc it makes sense to help set up the the proper medical infrastructure needed to slow down if not stop the spread of disease since lack of proper facilities part of the problem over there. Unfortunately the us military is the only organization with the logistics capability to make this happen. The 3000 is also a total number(including aircrews, ship crew etc). As mentioned earlier in this post it is certainly in our interest to keep this isolated in that part of the world

UStroops should be not used in anyway to support lock downs etc. I would think that military police units would be sent to provide security for the other units on the ground

I know what logistical support its gonna take...
I also know know how ground ops work in a place like that...
Gonna be like herding wild cats...
The locals aren't going to go voluntarily into the treatment centers. They are viewed, as death chambers, which for most of them, it will be...Who will go door to door and make the sick ones turn themselves in?

And I betcha US troops wont be allowed to be armed.
This wont end well.

All good points. My bet(pure conjecture) is that they will send in the engineers to build some quick build hospitals etc, we will probably have some field hospitals and possibly a hospital ship to off- load westerners and some of the more serious cases. From the sound of it we are also sending in medical and corpsman to help teach locals as well. I doubt vey much we would be involved in rounding up patients etc. Probably would also provide airlift and supplies. The 3000 could be misleading because a single aircraft carrier group or an amphibious squadron could take up most of that. Thinking along those lines would not be surprised if a marine expeditionary force would not be the boots on the ground

Mission should be to build the infrastructure, train the locals, and let the Europeans staff the them(since this poses a greater danger to them than us). Things need to be put in place to help to stop this from continuing to pop up over and over

Possible problems;

Soldiers/sailors becoming infected

Crowds/riots around supply areas(which I think you were suggesting) bad if us troops unarmed or even if they are

Thinks left not being completed after it drops off the front page-insufficient international support
