He is way ahead of schedule - most of the time he is fine. He has some pain issues, as his skull heals, he has the metal - i think its titanium - plate over the broken area, this is the left side of his head. His skull was fractured by the guys fist, then again when he hit the ground. When I first saw him that night, they were prepping him for surgery, he was bleeding from both ears, if things werent already very scary, that's what did it for me. I just got ready for the worst , seeing that.
He has no memory issues that he tells me about, during the recovery period, he went through some depression issues - which I think his 14 little boys (his football team) probably did more to pull him through than the medication. He is on no medication anymore.
Except for the depressed area of the left side of his head and the fairly large scar, if you ran into him, you wouldnt know he had been hurt, in my opinion. He grows his hair much longer now to hide all of that - and almost always wears a cap, but he did that before.
Of the people we met who had been through this, we belong to a group called TBI Survivors Family, he is the one who has come back the most. One of the things he does now is meets with other TBI victims at the hospital and sometimes I meet with their families , to tell them what to expect, stuff like that. Other people did it for us, when Erik was in the hospital.
