Coach Mike Lotief of the ULL Ragin’ Cajuns and Coach Slade Maloney of the Texas Fusion Gold will be working together to bring an inclusive hitting clinic to North Texas at the Texas Fusion Indoor Facility on Wednesday 11/26/08, this is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving –

Coach Lotief is recognized as one of the premier hitting coaches, and head coaches at the Division I level, having lead the Ragin’ Cajuns to the WCWS of Softball in 2004 & 2008, here is the link to his complete Bio:

Here are some of Coach Lotief’s Highlights:

Coach Lotief holds an overall record of 355-82 (.812) at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. His career winning percentage ranks second in the NCAA record books amongst all active Division I head coaches.

Lotief’s offensive philosophy has wielded the nation’s most doubles with 106, the nation’s second-best slugging percentage at .504 and the team was 11th in the nation in scoring (5.35 runs per game) and batting average (.299).

In five of the last six seasons, Lotief’s hitting system has produced at least 70 home runs and ranked in the Top 30 of nearly every hitting category in the NCAA stats. The run included a string of three straight seasons (2002 through 2004) in which the offense set the record for school home runs in succession (76 in 2002, 79 in 2003 and 88 in 2004).

In 2005, Lotief’s system produced 81 home runs in 61 games for an average of 1.33 home runs per game. It was the second straight season with 80-plus homers (88 in 2004) and under his guidance the squad ranked in the Top 5 in the NCAA statistical rankings for home runs per game for the fourth straight season (2002 through 2005).

In 2006, his hitting system wielded the first 100 home run season in school history. Three of his hitters – Danyele Gomez, Ashley Evans and Lacey Bertucci – ranked in the Top 10 of all NCAA Division I hitters in home runs.

The 2007 season saw a lot of the same. The Cajuns batters hit 69 home runs and knocked in 321 runs. ULL had a team slugging percentage of .442 and an on-base percentage of .381.

Every player on the 2004 squad hit at least one home – four reached double digits – and the byproduct was 88 home runs – the first 80-plus home run season in program history and the third straight 70-plus home run season. It all happened with a team that did not have one senior in the starting lineup all season long.

Another freshman had a banner season working in Lotief’s system. Holly Tankersley eclipsed Danyele Gomez’s single-season and freshman records with 21 home runs.

“I have had the privilege of working with some of the best hitters in the world,” according to Lotief.

Among them Alana Addison (2001 All-American, 57 career home runs, member of 2003 U.S. Elite team), Becky McMurtry (three time All-American, U.S. Olympic trials 2002 & 2003), Danyele Gomez (three-time All-American, 2003 Olympic trials, 20 home runs freshman year) and Holly Tankersley (2004 NFCA All-South Region, 2004 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, 21 freshman home runs).

Lotief was instrumental in developing Louisiana’s nationally recognized summer-ball softball program. In five years, his teams won five consecutive state championships, five National appearances and won the AFA 18-U National Championship in 2000.

Over 20 high school players who played for him have received Division I scholarships.

“Hitting is an art,” Lotief said. “Hitting is a science too. It is the most difficult skill to perform in all of sports.”

“I love the challenge of teaching hitting,” he added. “I love to talk hitting with our players and analyze their mechanics and break down video with them and figure out a way to help our players be the best in the country and realize their dreams and potential. When they hit a bomb it makes all those hours of throwing batting practice worth it.”

Coach Slade Maloney is a Private Instructor in North Texas, currently coaches the Texas Fusion Gold, and has lead teams to ASA Nationals in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 & 2008. Top 5 finishes at ASA Nationals in 2004 & 2006, and Qualified for ASA 18 Gold Nationals in 2008. Active member of NFCA since 2002, and has received a 1-Star Master Coaching certificate through the NFCC program.

The Texas Fusion Softball program and the ULL Ragin’ Cajun program will be working together on clinics and providing these unique opportunities to players within our program and across North Texas to learn this style of hitting and have the opportunity to discuss offensive softball philosophies with one of the top coaches in the NCAA.

The Clinic will be broken down into small groups, we will have no more than 6-8 players at a time, and we will set up 4 sessions throughout the day beginning at 10AM on Wednesday 11/26/08. The cost of the clinic will be $50, payments must be either check or money order made out to Texas Fusion, and the available times will be as follows:

We will limit this clinic to 2010’s, 2011’s, & selected 2012’s - For all of the younger players, we will be holding more camps and clinics this summer!

Session # 1 - 10AM – 11:30AM

Session # 2 - 1:00PM – 2:30PM

Session # 3 – 3:00PM – 4:30PM

Session # 4 – 5:00PM – 6:30PM

Please Contact Slade Maloney directly to reserve your Session, the sessions will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis.

• This is not a recruiting clinic for ULL or Texas Fusion, both coaches and both programs want to share their knowledge, help players become better, more productive offensive players. We want to give back and help promote the game of softball, so coaches please encourage your kids to join us in this and in future events with ULL and other NCAA programs, we take pride in developing athletes not lobbying to recruit them away from other teams.

The location of the Hitting Clinic will be:

1016 Luke St
Irving, TX 75061
