14U - Anyone have any ideas on hitting

by croth » Mon Jul 16, 2012 10:17 am

I have got a 14U girl that used to be one of my best hitters and for some reason she has gotten into a hitting slump. She works very hard every day trying to get out of it but she is starting to get very frustrated. Anyone have any ideas that may help?

Sounds like she's pressing. Let her take a week or two off and then get back with a fresh start.

Have her bunt - I would like to give you some good scientific reason (the kid gets their eye on the ball better, etc etc etc), but thats what we used to do.

Was going to suggest the same thing- have seen it work many times. One time it even cured a team-wide slump. A hitting coach said it it helps with hand-eye coordination. All I know is that it works!

Plus its fun - just put the ball where they aint. When in doubt, bunt it towards the biggest (I am being polite) fielder of the 3rd, pitcher , 1st baseman.

All these suggestions are great, I hope you have moved her back in the order to like 6-7-8 to take the presure off of her, and start bunting her.

Also many pitchers and coaches assume the 8-9 hole hitters are weaker hitters, thus she should see better pitches to hit.

Find her a new hitting coach.

I have also seen the fake bunt/ hit away work pretty good.
