When will IHSAA decide on 40 v. 43' for this season?

by softballrebels » Tue Jul 28, 2009 4:49 pm

Just curious when we will know whether IN will adopt 43' for this season or wait until 2010-11? Thanks.

How many schools have pitchers that have thrown from 43'?

Any kid that has played 18u travel or most of the fall exposure tournaments have all pitching distances set at 43' for both 16u and 18u.

I am curious to see if ASA will now adopt 43' for 16u play as well.

I know my DD is happy that she doesn't have to bounce back and forth from 40 to 43 anymore and can spend the next year throwing at one pitching distance which will be the same distance she will throw from in college.

My dd will be happy too. She will be moving up this year and likes the idea of just working from one distance. I have a feeling in our area and section...we will be going to 43 this year.

I sure hope ASA moves 16u to 43 feet as soon as possible. It is simply a matter of time now that high school has adopted that distance, ASA needs to be proactive and get it done.

I've been told by a HS coach in my area that they will be keeping JV at 40, which, in my opinion, would meant that ASA would probably keep 16u at 40. I know there are A LOT of freshman playing varsity, but for the most part, I think they are on JV.

My 16u travel team may be the exception rather than the norm, but I have 5 players who will play 16u next summer that are incoming Juniors in High School. Those kids do not need to see mediocre HS pitching from 43 feet, then see very good pitching from 40 feet in A travel. I was not completely convinced that the reasons were sound for HS to go to 43 feet initially, but since they have made that decision, the High Schools and ASA should get on with it as soon as possible. The sooner the transition is complete, the sooner the differences will be forgotten.

Just talked to my HS coach, she said that Varsity will be going to 43 this season. Guess we will be fixing the pitching plate at field maint. this year!!!
