Does she need confidence, focus, mental toughness?

by Southpaw729 » Fri Nov 13, 2015 12:15 pm

Let’s face it, softball is a hard game filled with mistakes and failure. Maintaining a high level of confidence is essential for any young athlete to play her best and keep the game fun.

If your athlete is at the recruiting age nothing is sadder than to see a talented athlete who has spent a decade honing her skills, with mom and dad having invested $$$$ in the process, crumble under the pressure and lose out on opportunity after opportunity.

But game confidence can come and go in the absence of mental skills that provide a solid foundation for mental toughness.

We know mistakes are going to happen on the diamond so your athlete has one of two choices she can make after a mistake on defense, poor at bat or tough inning in the circle:

A. See that mistake as her being a “failure” and have it negatively impact her the remainder of the game, or…

B. See that mistake as an “opportunity” and “challenge” to learn and get better from; to motivate her for the next at bat, inning or ball hit to her.

In short, whether your athlete chooses “A” or “B” will determine how she “feels” going forward and, thus, how she will play the rest of the game, the day or the weekend.

Coaching female athletes over the past 15 years I know that they require information, an understanding of “how” things work before they will believe them.

So for your athlete to improve her confidence, focus and mental toughness she needs proven knowledge and tools to help her to understand “how” her emotions work and “why” these emotions can have a huge negative impact on her softball performance.

And there is no better time than now to get her mentally ready to be her best for the spring and summer 2016 high school and travel softball seasons.

For a limited time I am opening up my private “Mental Edge” one-on-one coaching to a few new athletes 12-18 years old. Just click the link below to learn more or contact me. I specialize in working with fastpitch pitchers and hitters.
