Less heavyweights, softball-wise ;)

Your HS divisions sure are small (around 18 teams) and 12 teams make it into playoffs. Your brackets are so skinny, they plump'em up into an abbreviated double elim - no 'If' game!? Hardly seems fair to let team from losers bracket get championship with just 1 win over undefeated team (e.g. Clairemont last year).

Totally agree. Our old travel ball coach was the coach at Carlsbad and lost the title game 2 years in a row. Both years they lost to Torrey Pines by a 1-0 score after having beaten them previously in the tournament and going into the non-If game championship.

The winning pitcher for Torrey Pines both years? Notre Dame's Rachel Nasland.

It gets better (worse)...that coach's reward for losing in the CIF Finals by one run two years in a row was that the new AD cleaned house and let him go and some of the other highly successful coaches at that school. The following season when there was no Nasland to contend with Carlsbad, led by the new coach now (a very nice lady), won CIF. :o

He is now co-Head Coach at RBV and it should be interesting to see how they do in the CIF Open Division playoffs. To his credit I have never heard him make any excuses for not winning those two years.

Carlsbad won't be there. They got knocked out the Open Division playoffs and lost the league championship in the last game of the season.

All I know is the southern section should be divided in 2. Last year our first and only game was well above Santa Barbara.

Splitting it in 2 probably wouldn't prevent that match-up since you're both above LA. It would more likely prevent OC and IE schools from having to travel to Simi Valley and above.

Arlington (Riverside) is playing at Arroyo Grande (near Pismo) today - 228 miles each way.
