Top 12u teams in the country

by juandoe » Wed Nov 20, 2013 12:03 am

PGF 12u is off to a great start, with invites going out to the top 4 teams from 10u ASA Nationals. Firecrackers - Thornburg, So Cal Athletics - Mercado, and Georgia Impact - Stewart. And also to the Birmingham Thunderbolts team that finished t- 9th. DircecTV Genies Elite and the Louisiana Rippers, winners of the 2 biggest tournaments to date in the Southeast are also coming to Cali. With PGF 12u qualifiers in Alabama, Georgia, Texas, New Jersey, Indiana, and Illinois this year. It will be interesting to see which of the other top 2001 teams will actually try to qualify for PGF. And which ones will be invited.. Or chose to go to Indiana again for ASA Nationals. More than half of the top 12 teams/ players from ASA Nationals will be in California in August. As PGF continues to grow the 12u division they are just starting to get the best teams from the Southeast and Midwest to come out west to California. ASA 12u Nationals will continue have the large number of teams. But with little to no So Cal teams. And the best teams from the Southeast coming out west, the percentage of quality teams at ASA Nationals continues to decrease post PGF. And it is starting to look like the USFA World Series. The difference between PGF and ASA is some of the teams on this list could possibly play 2 and have a barbecue at PGF depending on their draw. Here is a list of some of the top teams from all over the country that continue to do very well in their region. And just like the AZ Suncats and Texas Kaos teams from last year. These teams can, and will give the top So Cal teams all they can handle. All these teams have a very good chance at winning ASA or PGF Nationals. I hope to see all these teams again in Huntington Beach in August.

2nd Place ASA Brenda Marsh
1st Place TCS Monster Mash

This team has alot of talent and all the pieces to make a run at PGF. They are well coached. They have a very good pitching staff that can shut down the best hitting teams in the division. I believe most pitched at PGF last year for their teams. They are very good defensively, have good speed and hit the ball very well. This is a new team so they are still developing the team chemistry that the other top teams have. They have played in some very close tournament games in the fall and have managed to come out with the win. They will be tough to beat come August and are one of the few teams IMO that can win PGF.

Team Mizuno Impulse - Driver

T-1st Place TCS Ronald McDonald Tournament
http://www.triplecrownsports.com/showbr ... sionid=290

I believe this is the Texas Shock 01 team from ASA 10u Nationals that finished t-7th. That year they lost to the So Cal Athletics, and were eliminated by Gamers Academy. I remember them having a very good #1 pitcher at ASA Nationals in Indiana. They have been pretty dominant in the Fall season. Winning the first two stages of the Texas ASA Fall Challenge Series, and t-1st at the rain shortened TCS Ronald McDonald Tournament against some very good competition. The Spring has been a different story though with their in state rival DirecTV winning the last couple matchups after beating them most of the fall. They played well at Turf Wars in Alabama against some good competition. They participated in a PGF 14u qualifier in May and did well there. They have already qualified and will be attending ASA Nationals in Indiana. They are one of the top teams in Texas along with DirecTV Genies Elite, Stingers Gold and Firecrackers CTX- Reeves. I hope they change their plans, and we see this team at PGF in August so my DD can say she took her hacks against. Dani from YouTube fame. :o She is one of the pitchers on this team. Yes, that Dani.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPJQJqzG72s

Franklin Flames

4th Place Turf Wars
2nd Place USFA Fall World Series
T-1st Place ASA Play for the Cure
http://gfp.tournamentasa.com/i!/bracket ... ?BSID=3795
1st Place 14u USFA Tournament

This team along with the TN Worth Hustle, and Easton Speed are some of the best 12u teams from Tenneessee. This Franklin Flames team is the best of the three IMO. They won the USFA World Series in 10u. Beating a very good Stingers Gold team. They also beat a very good B'ham Thunderbolts 01 team in the semi of the ASA Play for the Cure Tournament. And just recently placed 2nd at the USFA World Series by battling out of the loser's bracket against some very good teams, and avenging an earlier loss in bracket play to that same B'ham Thunderbolts 01 team. Unlike the other teams they did not attend ASA Nationals in 10u, so they have not had the opportunity to face many of the top teams from So Cal or most of the country. They did pick up a big pitcher that pitched for the B'ham Thunderbolts last year at PGF. They have already qualified, and it looks like they have their sights set on ASA Nationals in Indiana. Too bad that we will not get the chance to see this team. and we will not know how they stack up against the best teams in the country until 14u. This a very strong team that has the talent to finish top 5 at PGF. And they will be one of the favorites to win ASA Nationals in Indiana. But you could make the argument that Turf Wars had as good, if not better competition than ASA Nationals will. They attended the Atlanta Legacy Showcase in July and did very well going 4-1 against the top teams in the Southeast. I hope they change their mind and come out west with the rest of the top teams in the Southeast.

1st place Firecrackers Turkey tournament

This team won ASA Nationals in 10 u and they look like they have all the tools to repeat as National Champions. Great chemistry with this group of coaches, girls. Alot of experience in big games. Great pitching and a deep rotation. The pickups in the fall added more speed and depth at the corners to this team. They still are the best hitting team in 12u and they showed it at Brenda Marsh. Although they have not been as dominant in the Spring, with losses to two very good out of state teams in Stingers Gold (TX) and KBA (NV). The only question I have is will they be peaking at the right time like they did in 10u. If they can, no doubt they will repeat. If not, then we will have a new champ. The competition is just too good.

1st Place Support the Troops ASA Tournament

This is the Easton Elite Heat team that placed 3rd at 10u ASA Nationals. That year they lost on the final day to the Firecrackers and were eliminated by Gamers Academy. They are clearly still the top team from Georgia. A great softball state. After coming so close to beating the Firecrackers in the Winner's bracket final at 10u ASA Nationals. They will be coming out west to try and win it all this year. They are ASA qualified but have chosen to accept their PGF invite. This is a talented team that can go very far at PGF and can possibly win it all.. They have been on a roll in the spring season winning most of the tournaments they have entered. They are coming off a big win at the Futures Elite 12u Showcase in New Jersey. Beating the 3 three best teams there. Beverly Bandits- Van Prooyen, Ohio Lady Lasers Green - Pyles, and the Ohio Storm - Pentz team in the Championship They are currently doing well playing 14u at the Goldstar Elite Showcase in Florida. beating two of the two best 2001 teams from Florida. Jacksonville Storm - Davis and Gainesville Gold - McFayden. It will be interesting to see if they can repeat, or finish higher than their 3rd place finish in 2012.

Jacksonville Storm - Davis

ASA Qualified :D

1st Place USFA State tournament

This team along with the Gainesville Gold, and safety Harbor Stone Crabs are three of of the best teams in Florida .This team won the USSSA Road to Orlando World Series in 10u. Beating two very good teams from Alabama. The Huntsville Sparks in the semifinal, and a tough Mobile Battlestix team in the Championship. They also placed 5th this past Spring in the 11u USSSA Road to Orlando World Series. This time losing to one of the best teams from Tennessee, Easton Speed. They were later eliminated from the tournament by that same Mobile Battlestix team. They won the first Florida ASA qualifier in the fall, so they have their berth for ASA Nationals in Indiana. Since then they have strictly played 14u, including the Carolllton Classic in Georgia. They are scheduled to play at Triple Crown Nationals in the 14u division this year. I would like to see this team try and qualify for PGF. This team has not yet played in any Nationals with the best teams of the 2001 class. And they have not traveled as much as the majority of the teams on this list. We all know there is alot of talent in the state of Florida. It would be nice to see how this team stacks up against the top teams from California.

DirecTV Genies Elite

http://www.gamechanger.io/t/spring-2014 ... dule/games
PGF Qualified :D

1st Place Turf Wars
http://www.youthleaguesusa.com/usfa/sys ... .cgi#14987
1st Place Big Dawg Tournament

This team is the core of the Texas Elite Easton team that attended ASA Nationals in 10u. That year they gave the Firecrackers all they could handle in pool play losing a heartbreaking ITB game. They lost in bracket play to Team Mizuno - Stith and were eliminated by their in state rival Texas Shock. They have been playing some very good ball this Spring. They are coming off a very impressive win at Turf Wars in Alabama shutting out the Lousiana Rippers, and Team Mizuno Impulse before double dipping the MS Illusions to win the Championship. Prior to that they won the Big Dawg Tournament by beating the host, Stingers Gold twice to win the Championship. They played very well in most of the tournaments in the Fall, but struggled to beat Team Mizuno Impulse. The Spring looks to be a different story with DirecTV Genies Elite looking now like the top team in Texas. And the Texas teams looked very good in Indiana. This team will be a contender for a National Title in August wherever they go. They qualified for PGF Nationals at the Turf Wars tournament in Alabama. They will be coming out west to play the best teams in the country. It will be nice to see this team again. They did not play their best in Indiana in 10u. I expect this team will place higher than they did in 2012.

Birmingham Thunderbolts - Dorsett

PGF Invite :D

1st Place USFA Alabama South State tournament
1st Place USSSA May Madness
4th Place USFA Fall World Series
1st Place USFA Gulf South State
1st Place USFA Best of the Best NIT

This team attended PGF last year as a first year 12u team and did very well. They finished t-9th at 10u ASA Nationals losing to the Firecrackers, and were eliminated in a great game against the hometown Indiana Gators.Since then they have picked up one of the hard throwing pitchers from the Louisiana Ripoers #25.This team continues to travel and play the best competition and best tournaments in the country. They have won a couple of smaller tournaments in the fall and just recently finished in 4th place at the USFA Fall World Series. This team has the talent to win PGF Nationals, and we will see this team in August in So Cal. This is one of the few teams in the Southeast that ALWAYS wants to play the best competition they can find for Nationals.

Louisiana Rippers - Allen

1st Place Blazin'on the Bayou
1st Place Stars over Texas
1st Place September to Remember Tournament

This team just finshed winning the USFA World Series. Beating some very good competition, including the Franklin Flames in the Championship. They also had a very strong showing at Turf Wars in Alabama with a 3rd place finish. They placed 4th at ASA Nationals in 10u losing to Easton Elite Heat and were eliminated by Gamers Academy. They have a hard throwing pitcher #34 that will keep them in every game and some big bats in the lineup. They were the only team to beat the Firecrackers in Indiana in 10u. But it was only a scrimmage. I still remember their uncle coming on Heybucket soon after to run some smack. Ahhh 10u. The good ol days. :D This is a talented group of girls and the coaches are a class act. They have been invited to attend PGF Nationals, which I am sure they will accept. They have talented team with a good chance of winning PGF or placing in the top 5.

So Cal Athletics - Mercado

1st Place So Cal Athletics MDC
2nd Place St. Paddy's Day Blast
1st Place So Cal Athletics Winter Classic
1st Place USA Athletics Toys for Tots

This team finished 2nd at ASA Nationals in 10u. With their only losses coming against the Firecrackers. They will be one of the favorites to win PGF this year. They have good chemistry, having been together longer as long as any team in the division. They have played in alot of big games. They are very well coached and play some very good defense. They have some good athletes and depth. They have some big hitters on this team and can play small ball when needed. Their pitching rotation is as good as any team in the division, after picking up two good pitchers the last two seasons. They are the one team right now, that I feel can beat the Firecrackers on any given day.

Huntsville Sparks Elite - Dalton
http://www.hometeamsonline.com/teams/?u ... ftball&t=c

1st Place Alabama ASA State tournament
3rd Place USFA Fall World Series

This team along with the Alabama Twisters, Killin Time, and the Birmingham Thunderbolts are four of the top 01' teams from Alabama and around the country. This team finished 3rd at the USSSA Road to Orlando World Series in 10u. Losing to the Jacksonville Storm and Mobile Battlestix teams. They just came off a strong 3rd place finish at the USFA Fall World Series beating a couple of their rivals from their home state. The Alabama Twisters and Birmingham Thunderbolts. Their two losses in the tournament came at the hands of the top two finishers, the Louisiana Rippers and Franklin Flames. This team did not attend ASA Nationals in 10u, but would do very well at any Nationals they chose to attend this year. Hopefully they chose to come to Huntington Beach instead of Bloomington.

Stingers Gold 01 - Wincher

ASA Qualified :D

3rd Place TCS Colorado Sparkler Jrs.

This team is very good. They finished 2nd at the USFA World Series in 10u. Losing in the championship game to the Franklin Flames. They also attended ASA Nationals that year and did very well. Giving Gamers Academy a tough game in pool play, before losing to the Corona Angels and being eliminated by Maryland Magic in bracket play. They had a very good showing at the USFA Fall World Series, beating 3 very strong teams from around the country. Killin Time (AL) , Easton Speed (TN), and Batbusters GC (MS). In March they attended the St. Paddys Day Blast in Las Vegas and had a very good showing, by beating a very good So Cal Choppers Black team to win their pool, and the next day they knocked off the National Champion Firecrackers in the opening round of bracket play. Before losing in the second round to the So Cal A's. But they left their mark. This team has lost most of their tournament matchups with their in state rivals DirecTV Genies Elite and Team Mizuno Impulse. But they have traveled as much, if not more than any 12u team to find the best tournaments and competition they can find. Florida twice, Oklahoma, Indiana, Alabama, Las Vegas and all over Texas. They are also signed up for the Colorado Sparkler Juniors. Where I am sure they will run into numerous So Cal teams. It was good to see this team in March and how they stacked up against the top teams from California. Now lets see if they come out to Cali for PGF in August when it counts..

Wagner's Magic - Allender
http://www.marylandmagic.org/
ASA Qualified :D

This team is the best team in Maryland and one of the top 12u teams from the Northeast region. This is the Maryland Magic team from 10u ASA Nationals. They played very well there, placing 13th in the tournament. They continue to dominate the competition in Northeast region. They took 2nd place at the 2013 USSSA World Series last August, and played very well in 2013. Posting a 86-19 record to go with 8 tournament wins. This team can hold it's own against the best in the country. And could do very well at PGF, if they chose to come out west. But it looks like they have ASA Nationals on their schedule for 2014.

Thanks Juandoe for your rankings. You are pretty much spot on except I would put Rippers above Impact. Franklin Flames are a great team and deserve the accolades. We will find out who the best team is in March at Turf Wars. Here is a listing of the top teams that will be there.

Mizuno (Texas Shock)
Franklin Flames
Rippers
Impact 01
Sparks
Direct TV
Indiana Gators
Ohio Storm
EC Bullets 01
GI Elite Grey
American Eagles
Atlanta Vipers 01

Should be good

Mizuno Impulse
DirecTV Genies Elite
Stingers Gold

Sudden Impact - Lara?
Impact Gold - Sartin?
Texas Bombers Elite?
TX Fircrackers CTX?
Impact Gold 02 NTX?

Any others?
