Surprising there is no mention of Wicked 98- Mastrobuono, they have beat many of these teams, 3rd in Brenda Marsh, 2nd in TCS and 3rd in TCS Thanksgiving. Not sasying they should be at the top but no mention doesn't seem accurate either

There is a great opportunity coming up to see many of these teams in action at the same location before the So Cal PGF qualifier, and probably some of them head-to-head.

June 8-9, 2013 is the Surf City June Invitational Showcase, which has the following teams playing at Fountain Valley.

Playing in 16u – Mizuno-Campbell, Choppers-Shipman and Firecrackers-Rice

Playing in 14u
Confirmed teams:
American Pastime-Garcia
Batbusters-Graft
Corona Angels
Firecrackers-Roman
Firecrackers-Contreras
OC Lionettes
OCBB-McNee
Power Surge 99
So Cal A’s-Quarles
So Cal Choppers-Castillo
So Cal Breakers-Williams
Team Mizuno-Briggs

Not yet confirmed:
Team Mizuno-Granado
OCBB-Ybarra/McGowan

Would liked to have seen Firecrackers-Brashear and Corona Angels-Martinez there too to round it out, but they both appear to be at the So Cals Finest Zoom Into June tourney (16u) that weekend.

This may be the only opportunity to see so many of the best So Cal 14u teams in action at the same time at the same location before PGF Nationals.

Congratulations to Team Mizuno-Young for winning the TCS Memorial Day tourney, with quality wins over OCBB-Ybarra/McGowan (twice) and the PGF qualified Suncats 98 (AZ), who after losing to Powersurge 99, came back and beat them twice to advance to the final. Team Mizuno-Young may be poised to surprise some teams at the So Cal PGF Qualifier, if they can get in (I understand it is full and closed at this point).

A couple other notables from this past weekend for a couple teams on the to-be-considered list: TNL 14u Gold second place finish in 16u TCS Memorial Day tourney and OC Impact 98 second place finish at So Cals Finest Memorial Blast tourney.

We will conduct the first bucket poll after this weekend’s So Cal PGF qualifier. Attached is a ranking spreadsheet for pollsters to fill out and email or pm your rankings. They can be emailed to: brackyapprentice@att.net Add any teams that you want to the list where you think they belong and we will try to expand the rankings up to top 25 or so.

Congratulations to USA Athletics-Catania, Pure Fastpitch-Jorgenson and TNL 14-Gold who finished 1-2-3 at the Intensity ASA NQ, and to So Cal Jets, Xtreme-Nestor and SD Batbusters-Mauga who finished 1-2-3 at ASA States.

Congratulations also goes out to Firecrackers-Rice for their 2nd place finish in 16u at the Intensity ASA NQ and earning a berth to 16u ASA Nats.

There were some good games this past weekend at the Surf City Showcase, but the 1:25/20 drop dead time made them short matchups with some tie games reverting back as to “official” score. It was also nice to see some of our Nor Cal sisters putting on a good show at Surf City.

Congratulations to Corona Angels-Perez, Firecrackers-Brashear, and Firecrackers-Rice, along with our northern neighbors Central Cal Dirt Dogs, for earning PGF berths at the So Cal Qualifier.

Here is my short take on some of the teams:

Just Gittin Er Done
Firecrackers-Brashear
Corona Angels-Perez
Firecrackers-Rice

These teams did what they had to do and qualified.

Movin On Up
Firecrackers-Contreras

This team seemed hungry and played like it, with their loses being to Perez and Rice (both who qualified). In the Apprentice’s opinion, this team is top 15.

Moving On Down
Batbusters-Graft
Firecrackers-Roman

These teams did not come ready to play and need to make a prompt about face. Not sure where they try to qualify next, but they need to dig deep and find a way to win the games they probably should win.

On The Rise
OC Impact
So Cal Athletics-Natvidad
Corona Eliminators

These teams, while not being super impressive and still needing some help (mostly in the circle for all of these teams), showed that they have the ability to take down some formidable opponents. The most mindboggling was CE with wins over OC Batbusters-Tbone, Batbusters-Graft, Corona Angels-Barosso and Firecrackers-Roman.

On The Decline
Team Mizuno-Young
OC Batbusters-Tbone
Corona Angels-Barosso

These teams are not currently top 15, but they did not come ready to play at the So Cal qualifier. Most disappointing for the Apprentice was Mizuno-Young going 1-2 after a good run in the TCS Memorial Day tourney.

Congratulations to the following teams:

Qualifying for PGF:
Corona Angels-Barosso (Oregon qualifier)
American Pastime 98-Garcia (Nor Cal qualifier)
Team Mizuno-Young (Nor Cal qualifier)
USA Athletics-Catania (Las Vegas qualifier)
Firecrackers-Roman (Las Vegas qualifier)
So Cal Athletics-Mercado (Las Vegas qualfier)

Other tourney results:
So Cal Choppers-Shipman (2nd place OCBB 16u BOTW)
Firecrackers-Rice (2nd place Champions Cup 16u)
Team Mizuno-Briggs (1st place Champions Cup 14u)
Firecrackers-Brashear (1st place Colorado TCS Sparkler Jr. 14u)

The rankings have been updated merely to depict qualified teams, with a few comment updates.

If the last few weeks of tourneys have shown us anything, it is that the field is tighter than many may realize, and we can expect the unexpected at PGF in less than 2 weeks.

Updated as of July 16, 2013, there are now 7 So Cal teams signed up for ASA 14u Nationals in Normal, Illinois, out of 117 total, and they are:

Pure Fastpitch-Jorgenson
San Diego Renegades-Crawford
Southern Cal Pride ????
TNL-14u Gold
San Diego Powersurge 99 (defending 12u ASA Nat. Champs)
San Diego Powersurge-Trammel
OC Elite

Good luck to them all.
