I think I have it. Triple Crown indicates that they use the score differential of the last game played to determine a winner in the normal hierarchy (runs against, runs scored, head to head, etc). See the following.

Thus, in the last game played one team wins by some score and the other team loses by the same score. If the score was, for instance, 7 - 2, the run differential would be 5. One team gets a positive five and the other gets a negative five. Based on the data I believe that's what we're seeing.
