12U Top Team Ranking (Bracketologist) 2012

[b Updated on 7/13/2012

Good luck to everyone at ASA Nationals, TCS World Series & PGF Nationals

I wanted to thank everyone for attending the Bracky Elite 24 - we had a great group of teams and I'm currently working on the stats and all tournament team.

 = PGF Qualified
 = ASA Nationals Qualified or :?:

Group A - The Favorite Top Contenders – Going to ASA Nationals or Premier to win it all. Have the ability to survive a hard bracket and still win it all.

OC Batbusters Briggs
Grade: A
Pts:
Previous: #1
PGF Qualified:
Website: http://ocbatbusters.shutterfly.com/
Tournament Wins:
1st ASA 12U Thanksgiving Tournament
1st TCS Bracky Elite 24 Tournament

Bracky Comments: Still the top dog but Power Surge 99 is closing the gap.

Sun Devils Graft
Grade: A
Pts.
Previous: #2
PGF Qualified:  & ASA :?:
Website: http://sundevilssoftball.com/
Tournament Wins:
1st Co Champs AA Toys 4 Tots 12UTournament
1st 12U OC Coastal Classic (Huntington Beach Classic)

1st 12U St Paddy's Day Blast Las Vegas

Bracky Comments: A battle tested team that should be ready for PGF!

Power Surge 99
Grade: A
Pts:
Previous: #10
PGF Qualified:  & ASA: :?:
Website: http://www.eteamz.com/sandiegopowersurge12u99/
Tournament Wins:
1st 12U TCS Tournament
1st 12U ASA So Cal States Tournament 5/28/12
Bracky Comments:
Pitching and excellent coaching makes this team a contender at PGF Nationals.

Firecrackers Quarles
Grade: A-
Pts.
Previous: #3
PGF Qualified:  & ASA :?:
Website: http://www.eteamz.com/firecrackers99black/
Tournament Wins:
1st IE Halloween Havoc 12UTournament
Bracky Comments: Playing solid ball but still a bit bracket dependent

Group B+ - The Bracket Dependent Contenders – Can win it all but it will take a bit of bracket luck. Not a Top Contender because they are susceptible to B+, B & C+ teams but they can beat an A team. Note in 2011 a B+ team won PGF 16U & 14U Division. The Bracket draw at PGF is critical - while you have more bracket control at ASA Nationals.

American Athletics McGowan
Grade: B++
Pts. 4.1
Previous: 4
PGF Qualified:
Website: http://www.americanathletics99.com/
Tournament Wins:
1st Co Champs AA Toys 4 Tots 12UTournament
Bracky Comments: While still a contender for overall victory but the bracket at the Bracky Elite showed a difficult bracket will be hard to overcome. Very consistent so probably the Group 2 team that is best suited to win it all .

Artesia Punishers 99

Grade: B++
Pts:
Previous: #5
PGF Qualified:
Website:
Tournament Wins: http://www.eteamz.com/artesiapunishers99/
Bracky Comments: Have played almost exclusively in 14U all year - usually that ends up backfiring at Nationals.... time will tell.

Team Watley
Grade: B+
Pts:
Previous: #6
PGF Qualified:
Website: http://www.eteamz.com/teamwatley/
Tournament Wins:
1st 12U Firecrackers Mothers Day Tournament
Bracky Comments: When on capable of sending most of the A and all of the B+ teams to the losers bracket. A year away.

La Mirada Firecrackers
Grade: B+
Pts.
Previous:#5
PGF Qualified:
Website: http:
Tournament Wins:
1st 12U Fresno Force Classic
1st 12U Premier So Cal Qualifier Champions

Bracky Comments: Question is did they peak to early? Still hard for them to beat two of B+ and/or A teams in back to back games

Corona Angels 99 - Barroso
Grade: B+
Pts.
Previous: #8
PGF Qualified:
Website: http://www.eteamz.com/coronaangelsbarroso99/
Tournament Wins:
Bracky Comments: Not sure they can win it all, but a top team.

Jynx 99
Grade: B+
Pts:
Previous: #11
PGF Qualified: & ASA:
Website: http://www.eteamz.com/socaljynx10u/
Tournament Wins:
Bracky Comments: Not sure what is going on with this team... lending out players so where do they play and for what team?

Group B - The Spoilers – Don’t have enough to win it all but can send an A or B+ team home or to the losers bracket. Playing on Sunday (ASA & PGF Nationals) and a solid top ten finish are the ultimate goal.

Firecrackers - Davis
Grade: B
Pts:
Previous: 12
PGF Qualified:
Website: http://www.eteamz.com/firecrackersdavis/
Tournament Wins:
Bracky Comments: A consistent team is playing solid ball at the right time. Not enough firepower to beat two B+ teams in a row.

Case Batbusters
Grade: B
Pts:
Previous: 9
ASA/PGF Qualified:
Website: http http://www.casebatbusters99.com
Tournament Wins:
Bracky Comments: Surprised me at the PGF Qualifier, but a hot and cold type of team. When hot look out!

Gamers 99
Grade: B

PGF Qualified:  & ASA:

Cal Thunder-Ramos
Grade: B
Pts.
Previous: 16
PGF Qualified: & ASA:
Website: http:
Tournament Wins:
Bracky Comments: Very good team that just has a hard time pulling out close games against B+ & A teams. Not a team that you want in your bracket.

Group C+ - Very good teams that will need to play their A game to make it to Sunday (ASA & PGF Nationals). No C+ team has made the final eight at Nationals. These teams will cause some pain for a couple of B+ or B teams but not enough to make the final 4. Playing with the final 12 is the goal! C+ teams attending Western Nationals or TCS World Series are the favorites!

American Athletics Claremont
Grade: C+

Tournament Wins:
1st 12U TCS Presidents Day Showdown 2/2012
Bracky Comments: Not enough gas to play the top teams every week but like Wicked they play with alot of heart.

Group C - Very good teams that are a bit too hot and cold to be a C+ team (i.e., inconsistent). Playing on Saturday night is the main goal for these teams at ASA Nationals. Those attending Western Nationals will be labeled a top Contender!

Mizuno Pride 00

The important component is the Teams grade (A, B+ & B) and not their ranking. At this point rankings and grades are projections for Summer. However, in 12u the teams identified as A in spring – were still A’s in spring and in 2007, 2008 & 2009, 2011 the championship game at nationals came down to the top 2 teams in the poll.

A’s – Have the ability to win three consecutive games against other A or B+ rated teams at a major tournament (i.e., State, Nationals, PGF etc). A’s are playing for the big prize “ASA/PGF Nationals”. To be ranked as a solid A Team, a team must have the ability to beat all of the other A Teams in tournament bracket play.

B+ Teams – Have the ability to win the big prize at ASA/PGF Nationals if a few things break their way (i.e., don’t have to beat two A teams in consecutive games). B+ teams will beat A teams in tournaments, they just lack the ability to beat A teams in back to back games! In 2006-07 TNL could beat anyone but they could not beat Victory-Campbell, Corona Angles 94 and Lakewood Ladies in back to back games. To be ranked a B+ team, a team must have the ability to beat all of the other B+ teams. Note: Because of the PGF Nationals format (100% stupid blind draw vs. ASA seeding earned via pool play) the luck of the draw makes it easy for a B+ team to reach the semi finals without playing another B+ or A team. In 2011 B+ teams won both 14U & 16U PGF in 2011. These teams usually will chase a berth and will utilize every opportunity to get to Nationals.

B Teams – Can only win ASA/PGF Nationals if they get hot and they get lucky (i.e., a great draw)! They can beat A teams in friendlies but struggle beating them in tournaments. B teams can and will eliminate B+ Teams but they would be hard press to win a tournament that requires them to beat 2-3 B+ Teams in a row! While most of these teams will be competitive at Nationals, the majority will not chase a berth. These teams usually end up at ASA Western Nationals, the USSSA or TCS World Series.

C+ Teams – The goal is to qualify for ASA/PGF Nationals. These are usually top 20-40 teams that will play the B+ teams closely and beat B Teams in significant tournaments. Typically the majority of first year 12U or 14U teams perform at this level. The majority of these teams like to play the side circuit TCS, USSSA & AFA etc.

top five reasons for the lack of "X!@#S"

1) Papiball et all, don't have a kid in 12u.
2) They haven't heard of Heybucket, much less have they heard of the all knowing Brackman
3) We all know that the team from Claremont will win it all, no need for the ranking.
4) A memo was sent out by firecracker org to seize from posting, so that's every team in 12u.
5) All potential newbies have been discouraged or scared away from posting, see number 3.

Thank you very much, I am keeping my day job. :D

Okay, I'll bite..

OCBB is the top dog
FirecrackersQuarles- Lost way too many key players to be ranked #2
AA-Mcgowan - top contender
Sundevils - this is a very solid team- will give everyone a run

#5TopTeam-noway should they be ranked this high, maybe 14 or 15th

#14 Artesia Punishers, #12 Corona Angels and #17 USA AThletics are ranked way too low -Theses are solid teams that could put away #5 through#20 and will give 1-4 a run for their money

#7,#15, #16, #18 and #20- Who are they?

Agree with your # 5 comment based on what have they done to be there don't know about # 14 , but think #12 is solid and #17 was run ruled in 3 innings recently by # 6.
And Bracky...you spelled Watley wrong... :)

You may be right about #17 - I heard they lost a lot of girls in Sept. - I havent seen them play for awhile
Punishers gained a few key players...they may be a sleeper

#1 is the team to beat
#3 is going to overtake #2
#6 should be #4
#9 should be higher so should #10
#11 have they even played???
#14 is an up and down team just like their 98 team
#17 is ranked too high, they are a whole new team from last year
#18 should move up a few spots
#19 and #20 won't last there

good start though and good luck to everyone

Keep an eye out for Strikeforce 99. They're an up and coming team. Beat #3 AA McGowan 8-6 in the Strikeforce 98 14U Friendly this past weekend. They are Playing in the Brenda Marsh Tourney next weekend. Should be interesting to see how they do.

We were at that same friendly and saw the end of that game. Strong pitching from both sides but Stikeforce out hit them in the end. Good tight game.
