All the top teams will be at Premier, the smart teams will stay in CA and participate in 18A in Hemet and not bother with the gold thing, but also try to qualify for Premier. The dumb teams will try to qualify for ASA Gold Nationals and travel to Georgia, spend a ton of money and get rained out. ASA will be lucky if they have 50 teams for the Gold qualifier after the better teams bail out. It looks like teams are getting bumped into the Gold 50 even though they didn't earn it, i.e. teams with a 1-2 record qualify? Smells like TCS and USSSA. What a joke.

We have two national tournaments in our own back yard, why bother going to Georgia. The Gold competition is going to be so watered down, just sayin.

Will they allow Gold classified teams in the 18A Nats in Hemet or will they force them to play in the new 18-Gold Western Nats in Stockton?

How would you rank the strength of the 18U tournaments - 18G Nats, 18G Western Nats and 18A Nats?

It is my understanding that once you are Gold you can't play 18A Nationals, am I wrong? Does anyone out there know for sure?

Once you play in your first Gold qualifier, your team and those players are now Gold and can not play any other division.

Does that apply if your team does not qualify?

Yes.

At least 18G now has territorial nationals (e.g. Western Nats) for the teams that don't qualify for Gold Nationals.

I apoplogize for being dense, but I can't find this stated in the ASA Rules anywhere.

Actually, they can play other divisions. Within the Girls' Fastpitch division, they can only play 18u Gold since there is not a higher classification.

Here are the applicable sections in the ASA Code (http://downloads.asasoftball.com/about/pdf/asa_code.pdf):

Article 501 ELIGIBILITY - D. Player Eligibility - 02. Rostered Player
a. A player may participate as a regular rostered player on only one team within a division in championship play during a season.

Article 502 ROSTERS. A team's roster becomes official when a commissioner or designee signs it for championship play. Each team is permitted pick up players according to Article 503 of this code.

Article 503 PICK UP PLAYERS - A. General Rule. All teams are permitted to pick-up three players as follows:
04. Pick-up players must be from the team’s same division and the same or lower classification.

Article 508 LEVELS OF CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY. The following are levels of championship play:
A. Local Association Championships.
B. National Qualifiers.
C. Regional Championships.
D. Territory Qualifying Tournaments.
E. National Championships Finals.

Gold Classifiers are NOT championship play.

How did you come to the conclusion that gold qualifiers are not championship play?
I’m hearing second hand information/decisions that support this, however, I’m not finding this in the code.

"Article 508 LEVELS OF CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY. The following are levels of championship
play:

B. National Qualifiers. The association shall conduct national qualifiers in the
following divisions of championship play.

01. Junior Olympic Girls’ Gold 18-Under, Class A 18-Under, 16-Under, 14-Under,
12-Under, 10-Under Fast Pitch.
